Amazing nature views and the world heritage railways right there. Coming by train requires either taxi / on-call bus, or a short hike up a quite steep road though. Easier by car oddly for a village right on the railways and famous for the railways. Semmering is a beautiful little town of mostly hotels and weekend houses situated among the mountains. We actually didn't spend much time in Semmering itself, we choose this town as it was relatively close to the trails we planned to go on hikes to. I understand there are plenty of walking routes at Semmering but the purpose of my visit was to view the UNESCO trans alpine railway on the eastern grade. Little but tiny place for skiing and walking/cycling. Not many shop and restaurant but clear and nice. If you book be sure, that you can have a dinner and where, if the hotel does not have a restaurant you might drive to Gloggnitz. Stuhleck is close which has more ski slopes and well daily maintained. We have been to Semmering many many times before and would...
We have been to Semmering many many times before and would recommend and urge people to visit. This time we hired a car from Vienna due to flight times but if possible, I recommend highly the train journey. Very easy access from the airport to the SudBahnhof and the holiday starts here as the historic railway journey includes stunning scenery, especially so when snow covered and spectacular tunnels and viaducts through the mountains. Cannot recommend this more, see for yourself. Semmering itself is peaceful, friendly, historic and stunning and if you are not a skier then have a go at the toboggan run....soooo much fun. Good snowy woodland walks too to burn off the excess calories which you may be subject too if you eat at the highly recommended Belvedere restaurant.
