Loved how clean the room was and smelling nice. Room was bigger than expected. Air-condition and fan in the room! Excellent location with yummy Greek food across the street. Only Short drive to Hunter valley gardens. Friendly staff. Great value for money.

Cessnock was a stepping stone to visit the Correction Centre; access by Public transport was good / satisfactory ... Bus 164 from/to Maitland station... would welcome 2 per hour! I soon learnt NOT to try booking a Cab (4990 1111) at night - very busy and no response; early morning was v good and quick; had a good, obliging Cab driver to and from the CC. Town seems to have plenty of Cafes.

My wife grew up in Cessnock so it was a trip down memory lane which was pleasant from her point of view. There are some beautiful historic buildings which adds to Cessnock's character, close to the vineyards and has all the basic facilities of a thriving country town. The only issue is the approach to Cessnock coming from Kurri can be quite congested with traffic and Vincent St is too narrow and congested for parking, unlike Wingham which is near to where we live with wide rds and central rd parking.I realize that its too late to overcome this issue particularly as I believe vincent st was always narrow compared to other CBD roads. We nearly didnt stop for a coffee until we managed to find a park up a side street, still its far better than Maitland which is a rabbit warren and a headache for any town planner.

We are not big wine drinkers, so enjoyed some of the other features of the area including the Cider House, chocolate and cheese factories, a drive up through Lovedale to Greta and Branxton then back down the hermitage way for some nice views and up to a couple of lookouts, some good meals. We spent nearly a full day in the Hunter Valley Gardens that were still amazing despite the start of winter and will be visiting them again when we return to the area for a bit more exploring

Cessnock rarely gets named or mentioned and instead, "Pokolbin" is used by the tourism industry .. Pokolbin is literally next door to Cessnock! As far as country towns go in NSW, Cessnock is a good place to stop in and even take a look at Pokolbin. Cessnock is well serviced shopping-wise, has many great pubs (especially "Peden's") for well priced accommodation and excellent restaurants in their own right. There are plenty of cafes as well as the usual fast food places. If you're within a hundred km of Cessnock, have a look .. it's a lovely city in its own right encircled by beautiful mountains and vineyards. Don't be pulled into "just" looking at Pokolbin and the vineyards. Cessnock is worth a visit. I have a strong feeling that tourism folk don't like to mention the name "Cessnock" due to its coal mining history - but that in itself can be a drawcard.

Cessnock is a lovely "little" country town just two hours north of Sydney. Make time to visit the Hunter Valley Wildlife Park - adults are $42 ea, - it is a lovely wildlife reserve, the chocolate factory and the lovely wineries. The people are very friendly and helpful. Give the Asian restaurant (Kee Ho Restaurant) a miss - they are expensive, and the quality of the food does not represent the cost.

What a beautifully presented house full of antiques and homely touches. Just amazed at the well stocked kitchen, laundry etc. The beds were comfy, even the sofa bed. It was a great space for 5 adults and 3 children. Wish the weather was warmer for the swimming pool though!

Location great. This is a very cheap budget hotel, no frills but clean and comfortable. The complex was small enough not to be rowdy, some lovely families staying over Easter. Pool not heated, ouch, kids still loved it.
