It was a good location close to work at Mona Vale. Staff were all friendly. The room was well presented and a good size. The bed was comfortable and the facilities ample. it was a reasonable charge per night compared to other options.

First night we were awakened by a smoke alarm. We tried to contact staff at both telephone numbers listed in the room pamphlet but neither emergency numbers were operational. The fire dept came and determined cause was a faulty alarm sensor in main reception area so we returned to our room at 1am. Two other couples were also with us standing outside during this time. The next morning or several hours later, the staff were unawares an event had even occurred! Given they have at least six guest rooms at this location there should have been a reliable and valid contact number and person responsible to call. The street house associated with rooms overlooking water made sleep difficult and shades in room not effective in blocking light from building lighting and street lights.

Located at the top of the ridge above Palm Beach (a few minute drive away) with views over Pittwater and the Ocean, tall trees, abundant bird life and Rudi's collection of red vintage vehicles, our stay here was a real treat. Rudi had amazing stories to tell of his adventures all over the world and Avalon provided a delicious breakfast. There was room in the fridge for our perishables (this was part of an extended self-catered trip for us). And the presence of the kookaburras, cockatoos and lorikeets just outside the window during breakfast was astonishing. This is what a true B&B experience should be about!

Church Point is the ferry stop for Scotland Is. at the lower end of Pittwater. There is parking available but mostly in timed spaces and of course you pay. In holiday season parking is at a premium. As we were staying on Scotland Is overnight, we parked 2 km away near Bayview sailing club in a side street and took the bus into church point (4 mins) to catch the hourly ferry service. Buses every 30 mins. You can get a water taxi to SI from Church Pt for approx $30 (2022)if you don't want to wait for the ferry. There is a general store/cafe at the pier with really nice views which is amazingly busy most of the time. We never ate there because of Covid, crowds and slowish service (lack of staff presumably) but got a takeaway toasted sandwich while we waited on the pier (seats) for the ferry, it took 20mins to be ready (buzzer provided to us). Tasty though. There are some seats/benches in an open area outside the store but these were quite popular. A small beach next to the pier saw children putting their feet in the water. Also the Public Convenience at the Bus stop back to Mona Vale is a bit whiffy and was also whiffy last time we went to CP in 2020. Try to go in off season - very busy in January.
