There was only snow for the first days of our stay.
There was only snow for the first days of our stay. The ski slope was operating, but the cross-country trails were out of action. It was a short drive towards Mt Hotham, and the snow improved. Dinner Plain is a quieter alternative to Hotham. You’ve still got a gentle ski slope and tobogganing area so good for kids and beginners. The town itself is just beautiful. Beautiful little town where you can bring your dog.
Beautiful little town where you can bring your dog. It's very quiet but close enough to trails or Hotham. Tobogganing is great fun. The poma ski lift is quite expensive for such a small ski slope. There aren't a lot of dining options but that didn't bother us as we brought our own food and coffee. I've already given my thoughts about the place. Being off-season, no eateries were open, but fortunately, we were prepared and brought all our own food. You should know that when I googled "Great Alpine Road accommodation", there was no mention of Dinner Plain, Mt Hotham or any of the resorts. Only Harrietville and Bright. We enjoyed the sled dog racing that was being held that weekend.Prefer to stay on mountain at Hotham but definitely better than staying completely off mountain and the commute to Hotham was fairly straightforward. Location is close to everything - hotel, coffee and ski/toboggan slope. Everything in Dinner Plain is within walking distance though. It's a great pet friendly place.
