This was a beautiful place to stay with lots of attention to detail, small little surprises like robes, slippers, and sweet treats. I would definitely stay here again. Shame about the rainy weather because the pool looked very inviting.

Disliked composting toilet inside cabin. Not enough space for that. It smelt and very close to kitchen area. Toilet should be set up in separate building adjacent.

Such a beautiful location. Very peaceful. Loved hearing the water flowing down the river, hearing and seeing the birds, and sitting on the verandah that has gorgeous native trees and shrubs all around. The beds were comfortable and the location is only a few kms out of Gloucester.

Gloucester: A Perfect Stopover on the Scenic Route from Newcastle to Armidale
Gloucester is a fantastic country town that makes for an ideal stop when travelling from Newcastle to Armidale via Bucketts Way and Thunderbolts Way. With its friendly locals, great food, and stunning scenery, it’s more than just a place to refuel—it’s a destination worth enjoying.
Great Coffee & Food
For a coffee break, The Common Coffee Shop is a must-visit. They serve excellent coffee and are open long hours, making it a reliable stop whether you're passing through early in the morning or later in the day. If you’re after a hearty meal, Gloucester Roundabout Inn serves great pub meals with generous portions, and their wine list isn’t bad either.
Accommodation Options
The Bucketts Way Motel is conveniently located near the centre of town, offering clean and comfortable rooms.
Gloucester Holiday Park is a budget-friendly option—while it’s a little rough around the edges, it’s cheap, and the cabins are dog-friendly. Debbie, the manager, is fantastic and always welcoming, adding to the park’s charm.
Scenic Beauty & Relaxation
Gloucester is surrounded by stunning landscapes, including the striking Bucketts Mountains and the nearby Barrington Tops. Whether you're stopping for a short break or staying overnight, it’s a great place to stretch your legs, grab a quality coffee, and enjoy a bit of country hospitality before continuing your journey.

We loved our accommodation.
We loved our accommodation. It was perfect for either relaxing or exploring the wonderful area and do some hiking. The close proximity to Gloucester was very good - convenient to replenish any supplies or have a lovely pub dinner.

Travelled in September 2024.
Travelled in September 2024. Pretty town, lovely local parks, stunning rural scenery for nearby country drives, close to Barrington Tops. If planning to visit Barrington Tops National Park, suggest check with National Parks and Wildlife Service if any management activities going on. We could not get to the camping spots right at the top since the Park was closed in parts for all of September 2024 for feral animal management. There were no signs anywhere on the drive from Gloucester to Barrington Tops.

Close to Barrington Tops, Gloucester is an unspoiled, charming country town. The museum is excellent, and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. The tourist information centre is great too. There’s an art gallery as well, and op shops filled with interesting things. The Roundabout Inn serves fabulous food, and the bar staff were very friendly. There’s a railway station too, so if you don’t want to drive from Sydney, catch the train!

Very picturesque town, located at a 3 hour drive from Sydney. There were limited options for lunch/dinner, but again it is a small town so I wouldn't expect anything different. The coffee we tried was perfect, though.
I would suggest coming here in late Autumn to get the best views.

The accommodation is centrally located in Gloucester. You can walk to the main street. The room itself is loft style as the name indicates! It was very clean, the bed was extremely comfortable and there was a large spa if you choose to use it. I liked the little touches like the Tim Tams and choccies left for guests. There was also lovely bathrobes and towels.

A wonderful Federation home, beautifully restored & tastefully decorated - simply delightful!
The whole house was well heated & so comfortable - everything was perfect!
Would definitely stay at Galway again on the next trip to picturesque Gloucester!
