Rubyvale – 1 hotel or place to stay

Rubyvale Motel & Holiday Units - An Adults Only Getaway are set on a 3-acre parkland, within a 5-minute walk of several fossicking sites where you can find sapphires.

Lovely quiet motel, had it myself as it was off season.

Set in Rubyvale in the Queensland region, Sapphire Caravan & Cabin Park has a garden. With garden views, this accommodation provides a patio and a swimming pool.

Darrell and Victoria could not have been more helpful. The facilities are brilliant and the wildlife feeding every day was a highlight!

Sweet little town with friendly locals.

Sweet little town with friendly locals. Many jewellery shops to visit and fossicking sites. You can do fossicking at the mines and not have to dig if you wish. Was a fun week of relaxation and exploring.

We went at the end of the area’s busy season.

We went at the end of the area’s busy season. The weather in September is beautiful and we got to spend a lot of time meeting locals and business owners. Had so much fun buying buckets of “wash” and searching for sapphires. It’s very addictive once you start finding gems amongst the gravel!

Lots of choices for fossicking activities and Heritage Mine...

Lots of choices for fossicking activities and Heritage Mine tour was interesting. Eateries were limited however proportionate to population. No fuel available in town. Locals friendly and generally helpful.

Rubyvale, Sapphire and Anakie make up the gemfields towns.

Rubyvale, Sapphire and Anakie make up the gemfields towns. Interesting and fairly well provisioned there is a weekend market also. Excellent outdoorsy holiday region, it is fascinating fossicking for gems in the bush or supporting the local businesses who provide bags of wash and the equipment to sift through. You can take a mine tour, learn about gem stones, go bushwalking or shop for gem stones. It’s very affordable for families and reminded me of childhood holidays spent outdoors in the bush doing activities. We go back whenever we have a few days off.
