I stay in Leuven for work regularly, but it never gets boring. there are so many nice restaurants and shops in the center . The old buildings like the city hall are a marvel in their own right. Easy access via train or by car, plenty of parking, sometimes even free outside the city ring with free shuttle buses. Leuven is really a mixture of late-medieval Flemish style combined with the vibe of students. You can easily walk around in the city centre as lots of streets are auto-free zones. However, they allow bikes and these are going virtually everywhere. But the streets are relatively wide for an old town, so no worries. Lots of nice buildings that especially close to the Christmas (of Feast) times are nicely decorated and lighted. Lots of shops, eateries and restaurants as well. So enough to see. Culturally there is just a few of museums to enjoy. This city was a real surprise!
This city was a real surprise! Had a fabulous vibe, plenty and variety of cafe/restaurants, good retail shops and amazing historic buildings. Made better because the city center is compact and easy to get around without the usual crowded tourist hot spots you find in other cities. The city transport is convenient, and the railway station is also central and an easy and affordable option to venture into Brussels or airport (both 20mins away) or beyond. Leuven was a wonderful little university town! Great downtown and wonderful history to see. There was plently of great places to eat and even better places to try all the Belgian beer that you could want to drink.
