There's a restaurant connected to the hotel. I like how quiet it was, I like that there's a terrace going around the whole hotel and that you can lie in the hammock, hear the river and look out on the ocean.

This is a tico place for the most part, locals visiting, drinking at the bar. The main thing is to get out on a boat tour with American owner/builder Travis to snorkel, swim, see the monkeys, and visit the former prison island. (Make sure he’ll be there as he goes back to US for work often). Try to get Room #1 with its somewhat private dipping pool. The architecture is unique, a must see. But there was no hot water in the room, no wifi either, the fridge froze all our food solid, noise from the bar and pool table is loud, use ear plugs, paper thin walls mean you can hear the neighbours and twice people walked right into our space as it’s not clear that it’s private. The grounds and steps away beach had a lot of litter, beer bottles etc. The lovely Costa Rican staff don’t speak much English. The food is good, breakfast only two choices típico or americano, which got a bit boring after a couple of days.
Facing the beachfront, Isla Chiquita Glamping Hotel offers 4-star accommodation in Puntarenas and has an outdoor swimming pool, garden and terrace.

The Gulf of Nicoya is one of the Jewels of Costa Rica. A paradise where you can do all kinds of water activities. The island itself captures you from the moment you arrive and makes you never want to return from where you came from. We are Booking Genious travelers and I can openly say that this amazing place is a 10 out of 10. The rooms have a million dollar view.

The hotel is built like and old school US motel. The rooms are grouped around a pool. It’s pretty new and in really good conditions, very clean. The pool is beautiful and everything is kept nice and neat. Breakfast gets made to order, fresh.

This is basically a cruse ship harbor and not much to do in low season. A few bars and stores open. A lot of tour is not given due to no crusie ship arriving in this time of the year. Also, extreme weather resultet in that most tours from Puntarenas was cancelled.
If you are planning a vaccation, you should choose another city such as Jaco or Uvita. Very easy to take a 2-3 hour bus shuttle from San Jose, terminal 7-10 for a few dollars.

Very run down. We went passed the local prison 2 roads away from place we had originally booked. No trees,no green, just run down building with barb wires and high gates, corrugated iron....not nice, avoid.

While the hotel and staff were lovely and helpful the common verandah didn't allow for much privacy. The hotel was also at least 5kms from the rest of the town with no shops or restaurants nearby, so a little isolated. But the beach just across the road was a bonus.

Plenty of restaurants, activities to explore, etc.
Plenty of restaurants, activities to explore, etc. For me, It totally depends on your hotel. I’ve stayed in Puntarenas many times, but my trip this week to Hotel Puntarenas Beach was, sadly, my worst hotel experience in Puntarenas.

I personally like supporting small Costa Rican businesses. This is a small hotel with a little restaurant. There is a small pool which was lovely and warm. You can sit outside your hotel room. We ate lunch and breakfast at the little restaurant. Both were very good. The breakfast it “tipico” scrambled eggs, gallo pinto, avacado and toast (yum for me). For lunch I had the nachos and my husband had chicken fingers. The hotel is cute and very well taken care of with lots of staff. The beach is right across the road.
I wasnt really sure what to expect but the hotel was great! The young man at the reception desk was a fantastic help, and thankfully for us non Spanish speakers he spoke excellent English. We had dinner in the restaurant and the waiter there was also very helpful, he gave me some ideas after asking what I liked which was great service. Beds were really comfy too.
it is a very nice and calm hotel, with a small pool, where you can enjoy the evening in front of you room. Very nicely decorated. An open lobby and reception, providing free coffee and tea all day long. Very friendly and helpful staff. Private parking space and very close the the ferries to Nicoya peninsula.
The room was very clean and comfortable. The owners are lovely, friendly and helpful. We loved our stay in the hotel. Everything was amazing. The hotel is super close to the beach and bus terminal. The location is perfect! Truly recommended!!!!!! ❤️
