Kakopetria – 31 hotels and places to stay

At an altitude of 700 metres, The Mill Hotel is set in Kakopetria village. Built in rustic style, it offers tastefully decorated accommodation opening out to a balcony with Troodos Mountains views.

A very quaint little hotel with a lot of history located in the heart of Kakopetria village. We had a very spacious beautiful room with a big balcony overlooking the mountains and comfortable bedding. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Located in the traditional village of Kakopetria, Maritsa Lodge features a garden and offers traditionally decorated accommodation with beamed ceilings and a fireplace.

I got room upgraded, becouse one customer cancelled reservation. I got big room with fireplace, sofa and three beds and very stylish bathroom. Maritsa lodge is in the heart of Old Kakopetria and I really enjoyed staying here. Here you will be in really peaceful and zen place. Good restaurant Linos Inn is just few steps ahead. Special greetings to the nice lady of the house who runs the reception and kitchen.

Nice, freshly renovated, quiet place. Location is good when traveling with a car. Room was cold when we arrived. Only 8 degrees outside and very little customers in the low season, but this was expected. Breakfast was good and staff very attentive.

Kakopetria is a beautiful destination that combines natural beauty, historical charm, and a sense of tranquility. Its picturesque setting, with stone houses, cobblestone streets, and lush landscapes, creates an idyllic atmosphere for visitors. The surrounding nature is remarkable, with hiking trails like Varkotis and Chromium offering unique paths through green forests and along rivers. The peace provided by the environment makes hiking an invigorating experience. Additionally, the calming sound of the river that flows through the area, like the one you can hear in the backyard of Maritsa Lodge, offers a unique sense of inner peace, almost like the natural white noise of the outdoors. In the village center, the traditional architecture remains intact, with taverns like Podji Poda serving excellent local cuisine, and small cafés welcoming you for a relaxing drink and dessert in the main square. Landmarks such as the chapels of Saint Nicholas and Saint George provide opportunities for pilgrimage, while Marina's Rope Park offers activities for the more adventurous visitors. Overall, Kakopetria is an ideal destination for those seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, blending absolute tranquility with opportunities for outdoor activities and cultural exploration.

Charming historic village centre, largely vehicle-free, with an unique collection of preserved stone buildings with characterful wooden balconies. Set in a wooded valley with ready access to excellent trekking and biking trails. Well placed for exploring the Troodos mountains, including the UNESCO listed frescoed churches.

Charming village for a cool night in the hot summer with the sound of flowing water from the river. Very easy to walk around. Parking can be an issue on busy summer weekends. Good food at reasonable prices at the village pub and restaurant

Kakopetria is a mountain village, so everything is within walking distance. However, there's a lot of uphills and downhills - prepare to get tired if you're walking around in order to explore it. On the other hand, it's amazing for hikers, with easy and difficult trails starting from a lot of points in the village. And of course, Kakopetria is located in the middle of the Troodos forest, so it is ... dressed in green, with amazing views and brooks running everywhere in the village! Finally, there is public parking for daily visitors, although it seems pretty limited for the number of people present at any time, and the locals seem to park everywhere!

One of the best traditional villages in Cyprus that I highly recommend to spend a couple of nights should you want to relax. I highly recommend to stay at Ekali hotel due to its superb location. An activity I highly suggest is to hike from Ekali hotel up to Old Kakopetria and check out that place. And shall you be able to go for longer distances try and walk up to the next village "Galata" which is clustered with Byzantine churches along the designated route or just follow the main road. Your way back from Galata to Kakopetria is gonna be more challenging as it will be an uphill but it is worth the experience. Two of my favourite restaurants are Zoppos and Podji Poda. Zoppos is kinda more expensive nowadays but Podji Poda is a cheap place with humongous quantities and it is a great value for your money but as you would expect from such a place there almost certain you will be waiting at the line to have a sit and enjoy your meals. There are many ATMs and pharmacy stores in case you have forgotten to withdraw money. Something I would avoid is to forget my sunscreen as the sunlight UVs in Cyprus is very intense and sunscreen is a must have even in mountainous regions.
