Nothing special, just a good area to stay for one or two nights. We noticed that the floor was leaking some water, even though we were on the first floor. We stayed one-night cause we visited the place for a job we should done.

The room was very spartan and not at all homely. However when we asked the duty manager she brought us a few things such as a boiler and mugs for a cup of tea. The room is more reminiscent of a hostel which was also confirmed by staff the next morning. As such it was overpriced. The grounds and the actual Villa Ephraim are interesting.

The location is great, at 10 minutes walk to the city center. The charm of this old house is a plus. Besides the equipments, buffet for breakfast, I would like to stress the great professionalism and kindness of the staff during the stay and moreover when I had to solve an issue with the public parking where my car was parked. Thank you for the receptionist who was not on duty this Sunday morning for his assistance.
Here a recommendation: I reserved the parking spot at the hotel (15 euros) and since the small car park at the back of the hotel was full, I was sent to the public parking 'city center " at the other side of the block.
Here is the point. Even if it is not marked with clear visual instructions, you have to put the electronic card provided by the hotel against the right side of the console. The same when you leave. Do not take a ticket otherwise it will confuse everything. Look at the picture

Everything!! This is a brilliant hotel and we recommend it to everybody. Great reception by the Owner/Manager. Facilities are marvellous, room very comfortable. The restaurant is outstanding- a small menu but for us that is just fine. The food and wine is of a high quality and the staff on hand, Serafina (She of the Angels!) and Damien are absolutely brilliant and speak fantastic English. Both are a great credit to the Hotel.

A beautifully preserved historic city. The tour of the hall house was very interesting. We had lunch at the Kartoffelhaus restaurant, The service was fast, we liked it very much. I have nothing to complain about.

Gorlitz is a stunning city with very friendly people.
Gorlitz is a stunning city with very friendly people. Unlike many German cities, Gorlitz was spared destruction in WWII, though forty years of neglect during the DDR took a toll. A concerted effort was made to restore and renovate, rather than rebuild, resulting in a time capsule. Around every corner there is a view that transports the visitor to the past. It is no wonder that Gorlitz is often used by film makers to represent the likes of Berlin or Budapest. Located on the German-Polish border, indeed, divided by the frontier when the map of Europe was redrawn after the war, Gorlitz is off the beaten path, but well worth seeking out by the discerning traveller.

Beautiful city but what surprised me was that many places only took cash. It reminded me of Germany 10 years ago. Even the museum only took cash. I had a hard time finding any place to eat for lunch around the city center. Nothing opened until after 5:30pm. I finally settled on cake on coffee just to have something to eat. The many cobbled streets make walking hard if you have problems. At the time, I had a sore knee, but what else do you expect when you visit an old town?

This town is proper for old architecture lovers - there are a lot of (approx. 4000 according to Wiki) historical objects. In the town zoo you can buy a book with these buildings and discover them.
Btw the Zoo is fine place where you can find Red Panda and many other species, some of them (parrots, squirrels) you can see in very close contact because some areas were designed without barriers. There is also a part which is dedicated to Tibetan culture (copies of houses, live animals etc.) - very impressive.
Advent time is very nice for visit, because there are 17 days of street markets where you can taste typical products (glühwein, punsch, bratwurst etc.) and skate on the ice rink.

Terrific small city, an architectural gem, the 90-minute walking tour barely scratches the surface of noteworthy sights, especially buildings and interiors, so well preserved from as long ago as the 16th century or even earlier. I wish I had stayed several days more, especially to see more of the lovely countryside.

Easily connected with hotel about late arrival and they were very helpful. Parking right in front of hotel. Hotel was beautiful decorated and each room was unique. All extra touches were appreciated. Fully stocked mini bar appreciated after our 7+ hour car drive. Breakfast was delicious and unique. Would highly recommend this establishment without reservation!
The property was great and the hostess was lovely. It was clean and nicely furnished. I’m quite often in Görlitz and this has been the nicest and most affordable stay yet.
