Check in is until 5pm, we informed that we would come later, because we travel long distance by bicycles. In the evening there was noone to be found to answer any questions, we had problems finding our room, and when we found it, it was not heated. We were freezing after the ride, and wanted to boil some water for tea. There were several "kitchens" on the floor maps we found, but it was just a room with 4 tables, no kettle, no nothing at all. We looked for and did not find no water, neither hot nor even cold to drink. In the room we ironically had glasses, but not a single bottle of water anywhere to be found. It was a bit of a shock for 120 euro night stay after a long trip. We had to wait till morning to drink anything. I would say it is not a hotel, it is rather campus. There was some kind of music camp for children going on, and I think you shouldn't expect more than a school trip format of that: bunk beds, poor breakfast of bread, ham and cheese (no eggs even) with coffee from titan pot.
To be honest, we switched on the heating when we arrived, so it was not freezing at night when there was -1 outside. The castle itself is super fine, and the staff we met in the morning were also friendly and nice, it's just about a real discomfort we had to deal with in a hotel in 21 century - no water anywhere and no facilities to even have teraflu.

Wonderful location and building, seems to be the top option in Hohnstein. Fantastic dinner food, would like to have had more regional wine options. Breakfast is standard German but fresh with good coffee.

The staff were super nice and I had a pleasant stay. The room and food were great, with amazing views and history! Felt quite spooky being the only one staying in the castle, thankfully saw no ghosts!

Quite, village inn at the side of the road. An excellent spot to start exploring Sächsische Schweiz. If you dont mind walking an extra mile, then much less crowded than Rathewalde or Rathen itself. A roundtrip on foot to Bastei bridge and Wehlen was about 25 km. The exceptionally spacious family suite is located in the attic and accessed over somewhat steep and creaky stairs. That might be a problem if one has mobility issues or wishes to sneak out at the middle of night - whole house will know,
With a rooftop terrace boasting views of Lilienstein Mountain and the River Elbe, this hotel is centrally located in the town of Bad Schandau on the edge of Saxon Switzerland National Park.

The views from the room and balcony are great. The breakfast was very tasty. For dinner they have fish, meat and vegetarian options. The swimming pool is small, but while we were there it was never crowded. The person in charge of the hotel that weekend was very friendly.

The view to the Elbe from the room's window was great. The breakfast was pretty solid.
I was doing a bike packing trip and the hotel also offered a storage place for bikes. Great!

A delightful village in Saxony with fascinating rock formations, an excellent tourist office, the Guest card gave free transport on busses, trains and ferries. The bus timetables were very difficult to decipher. The tourist office was very helpful with providing transport routes and walking route information.
Unfortunately the grocery shop was closed in August for holidays, so the lebensmittel was in Bad Schandau. The ‘serpentine’ road became a raceway for youngsters on noisy motor bikes some afternoons.

The place is next to a road but the traffic did not bother us. Room was clean and so was the bathroom. We stayed one night and did not meet any staff member though we got to speak to one over the phone , who was helpful though he didnt speak much English. Although the place met our needs the price was too high for the amenities available

The price-performance ratio is really a bargain for this kind of unique location. Really recommend checking this venue out. So many hikes around. One can directly hike from the hotel to Bastei Bridge or go with a Bus as well. Really pretty town with a lot of views.

The stay was just perfect.
Turning an old castle into the authentic hotel facility is a tremendous idea.
View from a tower of the castle, facilities like beer garden and restaurant, superb breakfast, free parking lot, flexible check-in hours made our stay pleasant.
Highly recommended!
Apartment in a quiet location a bit outside of Hohnstein, 10 minutes drive to Bastei and a hiking route nearby. Good value for a short stay. It's possible to have breakfast at the location. There's a place outside the building to park the car.
