‘The City of Three Rivers’
Known as the City of Three Rivers, Passau is a beautiful German town in Lower Bavaria crossed by the Danube, Ilz and Inn rivers. Situated near the Austrian border, this university city is home to the biggest cathedral organ in the world with 17,774 pipes and 233 registers.
Built in 1688 by the Italian architect Carlo Lurago, the Baroque St. Stephen's Cathedral has frescoes and paintings by JM Rottmayr. Featuring classic European architecture, the historic Old Town of Passau has small cobbled alleys with picturesque Bavarian cafes and restaurants, as well as a Neo-Gothic tower. Set between the Danube and Ilz, the 13th-century Castle of Passau was the bishops’ residence for several centuries. Travellers can visit the fortress of Oberhaus and discover interesting museums with potteries, sculptures and paintings.

Since moving to Germany I make a point of visiting Passau for one or two nights most years. I never tire of what Passau has to offer and as an 'older' lady travelling alone I've never had problems with security, the train station is very close to modern shops and not far from the picturesque old town and the river.Guest review byWendyGermany - Review score8.0

Interesting city in a great position at the confluence of Danube and Inn rivers. Close to Austria, Czechia, and Bavarian Forest. Excellent cultural activities, such as the European Weeks summer festival, for music and shows. Some quirky restaurants. Young vibe because of the university. Passau is a beautiful town where the Donau River joins the other two rivers. It is also the starting point for many Donay cruises. Walking around the town, visiting the Castle, or just strolling around the river walks was an amazingly relaxing experience. We arrived and departed by train, and the station is 10 minutes walking from the city center. It was the place where our river cruise started and ended, and we chose to prolong our stay in town for two nights. We recommend dining early since most of the restaurants will close. For lunch everything is open, but finding a restaurant for dinner might be a struggle. I recommend the restaurant at StadHotel Passau, it is open from breakfast to dinner and they serve typical Bavarian food.Guest review byGemaUnited States - Review score10.0

Passau is a beautiful and nice small province bavarian City. Its nice for a weekend gateway with nice local food and friendly people. I would recommend you walk up to the castle on the hill were you can have a nice City view and later walk around the City on the rivers. Amazing. Great. Unbelievable. Great evening/night life. Many restaurants outside in beautiful streets. Some streets are so tiny that it is scary to walk them but I loved it. The meeting of the rivers is beautiful. Also I recommend taking a boat trip to Linz(5hrs).Guest review byJiříCzech Republic

Location cannot be beaten- right at the beginning of a precinct and within walking distance from the train station. Cafes, restaurants and a supermarket at a stone’s throw from the hotel. I would say, it was sufficient, but a little bit overpriced (45€ per night + 8,50 € breakfast / person) for the standard it offers - but probably due to the bicycle season, the hotel can afford it...
