We were welcomed by very nice, proficient staff at the reception desk and were pleased with the cleanliness and comfort of the room. The hotel had an exceptional restaurant where we had dinner, and we noticed that it was popular with locals as well as the hotel guests. They served the best hamburgers we've had in a very long time, cooked to order and served with crispy chips (fries). The Caesar salad was tasty, too. They had a good menu with continental dishes provided, so we'd recommend just staying in for the night! The breakfast the next morning was in a different area, and it was fine, but not exceptional. We'd stay again, and would recommend the hotel - and especially the restaurant's hamburgers!
The hotel features an outdoor swimming pool and 22 air-conditioned and fully equipped rooms on Barthelasse Island.

The rooms were lovely and comfortable. Our dinner was exceptional, as was breakfast.
The staff was extremely friendly and enjoyable. There is a lovely little path to take a walk in a somewhat quiet and rural area. I would have loved to stay longer.

Location of this hotel. Not far from the old town. We can just walk from the hotel to explore old town. You can park your car into hotel parking building or if you have a tall car like 190 heights, you can just choose parking building next to the hotel.

This is a wonderful city. There is so much to see and do here. With all the museums and streets and another fine town half an hour's walk away (Villeneuve) you could happily settle in for five days. This is before you add the excellent connections by train to Nimes, Arles and Orange and by bus to St Remy and Uzes. A staggering richness of Roman history and also part of van Gogh's biography.
Spring and autumn ideal times to visit.

I loved the streets and beautiful buildings.
I loved the streets and beautiful buildings. There are great shops and restaurants. Avignon is worth it in itself, and as a bonus it's a great base for going to other places in Provence. We went to Nimes, Arles, Orange, and Pont du Gard. The central train station is close by to the hotels, to just walk to in 10 mins.
We went in late March, and we loved the weather. It did rain a bit, but I don't like being hot, so it suited us just fine!

Center city was easy to navigate on foot. The tourism office was helpful about pointing out walking tours in English. The city and Papal Palais were so interesting from a historical point of view but there were lots of young people around and having a great time.

Avignon's history and cultural significance speaks for itself. However, 2 things to watch for. There's a slightly threatening feel to the centre of town, especially after dark. As a visitor, you need to stay switched on and vigilant of your surroundings at all times. Secondly, the Popes Palace looks better from the outside than in, ie. the interiors are a bit of a letdown, being totally stripped of their once-fabled magnificence. Other than that, Avignon is worth at least 2 days of your time.

I love a walled city. It has a warmth to it.
I love a walled city. It has a warmth to it. So compact with so much history. We toured the palace of the Popes and the Pont D'Avignon. Then we caught a bus to Villeneuve and toured Philippe Le Bel Tower and Fort Saint Andre. All were good but the Palace was outstanding. Lots of restaurants and cafes.

I found this hotel to be very pleasant, welcoming and comfortable, contrary to some "horror story" reviews floating around from disgruntled guests. The rooms are standard Mercure/Accor hotel style, WiFi was fast, staff good. Very quiet at night - a must for a sensitive sleeper like me! Breakfast particularly nice buffet & enjoyed the little outdoor area for dining. Unbeatable location for palais des papes and the Pont d'Avignon.
