We loved it here. The staff were truly fabulous and the accomodation wonderful. We only had breakfast once because of our schedule but it was fine. In short, highly recommend this venue, and super handy for town.

FAQs about hotels in Bayeux

Rich History and Medieval Beauty

Bayeux is a medieval French town in the region of Lower Normandy, known for the 11th-century Bayeux Tapestry which depicts scenes from the conquest of England by William the Conquerer in 1066. Registered by UNESCO as ‘Memory of the World’, this historic tapestry is 70 metres long and gives us information about the way of life in the Middle Ages.

The Norman-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral has impressive stained glass windows, bas-relief sculptures and a crypt with 15th-century frescoes beneath its floor. Consecrated in 1077, this structure is the place where the Bayeux Tapestry was kept for about seven centuries.

Opened in 1864, the botanical garden of Bayeux, which is home to the popular Weeping Beech tree and about 400 more trees, is open daily for free. You can wander around the picturesque old part of the city or visit the vibrant city centre with the modern shops and restaurants.

Crossed by the Aure River and situated on the train route to Paris, Bayeux is 7 km from the coast of the English Channel and 20 km from Caen – Carpiquet Airport. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Bayeux and the city of Caen.

Bayeux is a great place to stay to look at the D day beaches and memorials. I also went to see the tapestry which was very interesting. There are plenty of hotels, restaurants and bars. It is a lively town, well worth a stay.

Everything was in walking distance in the city. It would make an excellent base for seeing the D Day landing beaches which are very accessible. Also for seeing the Monument for the Battle for Normandie. We also found the Tapestry a very worth while visit.

Beautiful place with the tapestry, cathedral, art museum, D Day museum and D Day cemetery there is plenty to do. We used this as our base for a three day D Day tour which worked perfectly. The bars are fairly expensive, the restaurants are however reasonable. If you are there on Sunday or Monday there is not much open so you will need to plan carefully for your evening meal.

We loved Bayeux because it was a big town but was easy to get around and most of what you want to see is within walking distance of the centre. Lots of parking, free if you go a short way out of the main central area. The museums are fantastic. I'd always wanted to see the Bayeux Tapestry and was not disappointed. The D-Day museum is a very moving experience. From Bayeux it is an easy drive up to the coast to see the D-Day landing beaches. Even without that history it's a lovely beach area but the museums and information on the Landings make it very special.

The property is an historic building, and is very beautiful with lots of antique pine and other period features. It is situated over three floors which gave us plenty of space. Very tastefully & simply decorated, fully equipped kitchen with cooker, fridge & washing machine, it is very comfortable and provides everything you could need for a short trip. Perfect location, literally around the corner from the tapestry and the historic town centre of Bayeux. Jean-Marie’s breakfast was also perfect each morning.

The location of the apartment to the town centre was amazing. Included parking which was very useful given the location. Really comfortable furniture, with high quality furnishings. Kitchen was fully equipped. The welcome pack had lots of useful information about the area. Instructions to enter the property were clear and accurate. I was surprised how much there was to do in Bayeux and the surrounding area so a few days was not enough. A week would have been better.
