As a launch point for either the Eurotunnel rail link or the car ferry, Calais is well designed with reasonably good food and accommodations and good signage directing you to the respective terminals. We did have an issue with Google maps sending us to the Fret Eurotunnel reception repeatedly, but the road signage send us away from the trucks and back to the UK car border clearance fairly easily.

Calais is a quaint port village.
Calais is a quaint port village. Lots of shops and restaurants. Most restaurants open late afternoon. The small bus is free and runs from the port to town. The art museum was nice and also free. I would love to go back in the summer.

The lace and fashion museum is interesting, with a permanent collection plus temporary shows, so worth a visit - although the lighting is horrible. There is a lot of beautiful 19th century architecture, especially around the Parc Saint Pierre and a number of unexpected murals on various buildings around the town. The theatre seems to host regular events, although I wasn't there long enough to attend. There are also several friteries around the two central parks - useful for a quick snack or a cheap lunch.

A great place at any time of year.
A great place at any time of year. Away from the fantastic beach and promenade, which is are great places for children to enjoy themselves and parents to relax, there is a lot of history in the town. The Lace Museum provides a valuable insight to the social and economic history of the town - and it benefits from interpretation and displays in French and English.
A bonus - public transport is good and free!

The development of Calais Plage is a great example of how a grotty port can be transformed into a nice resort. An elegant promenade with a clean white beach and stunning sunset views with many nice restaurants and sporty facilities ( skate park, fitness trails and innovative kids playgrounds) calais town Hall is an architectural gem and the whole coastline is stunning . We normally pass straight through to the ferry . Next time. I will nook 2 nights and relax and explore a bit more

This hotel has a lovely "old-fashioned" atmosphere and appearance, I am so pleased that I discovered Hotel Meurice while looking for accommodation in Calais for the second night of my 67th birthday celebration early in March. The buffet breakfast was fantastic, with such a great variety of food and hot and cold drinks. I also loved the large and nostalgic dining room. I will surely return for a longer stay at Hotel Meurice this year!
The hotel is in a quieter street of Calais yet only a short walk to the Main Street with its restaurants. The hotel is undergoing some refurbishment which meant that it looked rather bare (no noise though) hence it’s hard to comment on its appearance. Nice touch to have a kettle in the room and there is a communal room with a coffee machine and fridge.
The hotel is within easy reach to the port and tunnel.
The hotel is located in a suburb Calais; it is easy to find.
It is located very close to the Eurotunnel terminal affording easy and quick access to the train.
It has its own car park on site.
The reception staff were friendly and very helpful.
The room was comfortable with good facilities, including a kettle.
We did not have breakfast on this occasion.
Great location right on the beach of Calais - perfect for walks with my dog. The hotel is also dog friendly which is great. Very short drive from the car ferry to Dover. A quiet and peaceful night, spacious and clean room. Plenty of parking right outside and also electric charging ports.
Good location for stopping off before/after the ferry. There is a big car park right outside the hotel which is free all weekend. Not too far from the centre of Calais which had a lot of bars and restaurants. Staff we're friendly and helpful at the hotel also.
