Lovely place and great service and Mark and the team, only issue was that the pub part was not open for food or drinks on a Monday or Tuesday but that was my fault for not checking. Other than that it was a lovely venue, service was excellent and the brerakfast was sensational.

On entering the premises we saw the hosts gave us eggs, bread, milk, tea n coffee, jam, butter, marmalade which was a lovely touch, the accommodation has very comfortable settees and bed, the overall accommodation was spotlessly clean, we even went to the garden area where we sat around enjoying the birds, cat and river really couldn't ask for more

Such a warm welcome and the most friendly staff. They accommodated our every need and went above and beyond my expectations.

Even though I have a long ancestral history in Bridport and visited many times as a child, I had never been to Axminster. The only thing I knew about it was the carpet manufacturing. I therefore assumed it was rather 'industrial'. However, it is anything but and is absolutely charming. Axminster also has a beautiful station that could be straight out of 'Brief Encounter'. I didn't even know that its name derives from the river Ax and therefore it is the 'minster' town of the Ax river; which leads to the equally charming Axmouth. This latter town even has a tram. Why did we get rid of those and trolley busses?

There is not much going on in Axminster.
There is not much going on in Axminster. The centre was almost deserted with all the shops already closed at 5pm on a Saturday afternoon. It remained very quiet all Saturday night and Sunday morning with nothing open not even to buy a Sunday paper

Axminster is an ideal base for exploring Devon.
Axminster is an ideal base for exploring Devon. I chose to arrive by train and found it very easy to get to places on the train or bus.
However, be aware that some of the local buses do not operate after 18:00. This really took me by surprise. Taxis are also limited.
So, although the bus service at the train station provides some ideal areas for further exploration, always check that you can get back!

Chose Axminster as most of the accommodation nearer the coast was fully booked, however, it is only 15 minutes drive into Lyme Regis or you can get the bus instead.
Only a small place but there was a Tesco, Post Office and a small market on Thursday mornings. Enough local restaurants to find meals so we could enjoy a glass of wine with our dinner for our 3 night stay.

Axminister is a small sized town, there is a reduced choice to eat in the town on Sunday and Monday evenings. From the places I ate at good food and friendly service.
There some shops closed down, I expect as an affect of covid reducing visitors over the past few years, hopefully business will start to grow again.
No problem getting around on foot.

Room was beautiful. Robes, tea and coffee, water, biscuits, chocolates and toiletries provided. Also not only hair dryer but also straighteners and hot brush.
Comfortable bed. Staff were professional, helpful and friendly. Will definitely use again if visiting Axminster.
Facilities like oven, microwave, and fridge. The shower in the bathroom worked well. Broadband, which was an unexpected bonus. Finally, it is only a short walk from Axminster shops and services. A likeable if quirky property.
