The best accommodation ever!!! Authentic old Harry Potter style (Slytherin?), clean, beautiful, atmospheric, parking, delicious and relaxing place😍 Staff - extremely hospitable and friendly especially the young lady who met us on the arrival 🙏 helped us with local navigation, jacuzzi, usb-charger and extra towels. Everything was super comfy and heart-warming: bed, bath, light and view-scenery. Breakfast is 10 of 10. Will advertise to everyone. Thank you very much!

The deluxe suite was lovely! The decor, space & lovely bath tub big enough for both of us! Staff were very friendly and greeted us each time we passed the reception. My only negative would be the price didn’t include breakfast. I also wouldn’t recommend paying the extra £25 for a banners, birthday cake/balloon. The hotel provide standard balloons but for £25 you got additional. This consisted of 1 helium, a small shop brought cake and 3 banners. I felt £25 was a bit steep. Location was 10minute walk into Canterbury which was great as we could leave the car parked (free of charge) and head for our day out.

The location is right in the centre, a five minute walk from the Cathedral. Being in the centre comes with town centre noise. Windows have secondary glazing. Coming from a quiet village, if we wanted the windows open, it would have been too noisy to sleep, so the windows remained closed. If you already live in a town centre environment, then may not be an issue for you.
Thanington Hotel is a charming 18th-century property with an indoor swimming pool, spa and free Wi-Fi. Canterbury town centre and cathedral are a 15-minute walk away.

Canterbury’s religious and historic significance has inspired literary greatness. Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ were based on pilgrimages to the bygone shrine of Thomas A Becket, who was murdered here. The Marlowe Theatre is named after the 16th-century playwright born here, and the Canterbury Museum has an exhibit on Rupert Bear, whose author lived in this River Stour city.
River cruises and punting provide fantastic views of the striking weavers’ houses right on the water, and of Westgate - the UK’s largest city gate. Other sections of the city walls remain, and there are also ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey, named after the 6th-century saint who brought Christianity to England. He was the first Archbishop of Canterbury, but the modern-day seat is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral, dating to the 12th century.
From the same period are the Norman castle ruins, occupying the site of a wooden fort constructed by William the Conqueror. The mound they sit on in Dane John Gardens is thought to be a Roman cemetery, and an original mosaic is visible in the Roman Museum.
In the Buttermarket half-timbered houses and historic inns are interspersed with shops, and big name brands line the Whitefriars Shopping Centre. The Canterbury accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap hostels and city centre B&Bs.

Surprisingly easy to find carparking, and enjoyed the large pedestrian shopping/sightseeing area. Entry to the Cathedral at £19.50 each was not cheap, and whilst the ticket was an "Annual Ticket" highly unlikely that one would every visit more than once a year.

We took the Cathedral audio tour which was great. We then visited the Roman Museum which was extremely well laid out and explained. The city history walk with Lyndsey was so interesting. A great place for a short stay.

Canterbury is a small city, on my doorstep, so is often overlooked for visiting as a tourist. Taking a few days to share the experience with family who have come from further afield is eye opening and reawakens the sense of awe. Unfortunately as with many other towns and cities there is evidence of rough sleeping with blankets left in closed down shop doorways during the day, or tents around the ring road. This is a city buzzing with the excited voices of curious foreign sightseers. The Marlowe theatre is always worth a visit with a variety of cafes and restaurants to have a pre- show meal

Apart from the obvious attraction of the Cathedral it's a great city to spend time wandering around, with a wide choice of places to stop for coffee or to have a meal. Turn off the main streets and there are attractive quiet back streets, and beautiful parks and riverside walks. And if you want an evening out, check out the programme at the Marlowe Theatre.

Beautiful city.
Beautiful city. Pedestrianised centre makes walking very relaxing. Two days is sufficient to explore major attractions.
The 90 minute cathedral tour at £5 in addition to the entrance fee is well worth it.
Highly recommend choral evensong to experience the sound of the choir. It’s free to attend and the music will give you goosebumps.
A wide range of independent cafes

The cathedral, of course is magnificent and the staff helpful. Walking around the main sights is easy. The Mound set in a pleasant park area, is worth the climb for the able. The path is fairly steep and beyond the steps, does not have a handrail, be warned - but the path is not too narrow so just take care

The hotel is not 100% what it looks like in the photos however it’s a very quaint little place and has value for its money. It’s in a wonderful location less than a 10 minute walk to the city centre. Despite being next to a busy roundabout it’s very quiet. It’s a lovely place to stay for a few nights whilst exploring Canterbury. I’d stay here again.
We were allowed to park before our check-in so that we could explore Canterbury centre, which is a 15 minute walk away. Both check-in and staff were great, the hotel grounds are fantastic and the bar area is a bonus. Lovely choice of food for breakfast. Howletts Animal Park is only a 10 minute drive away, Ebury is perfect for exploring the area.
Spacious and comfortable suite, in the centre of Canterbury. Well heated, but got too hot at times. We should have tried the cafe underneath the hotel for breakfast one morning - we got a good takeaway lunch from there after we checked out. Good shower bathroom, well appointed and laid out bedroom and sitting room.
The staff are great , very knowledgeable and friendly
We had use of the swimming pool and towels provided . The pool and area was very clean and provided towels . Lovely breakfast in the morning . Only a short walk from the town centre and we also had a parking spot in the hotel car park.
Wonderful historic building right next to the Cathedral entrance and in the historic old town. Very convenient for the city centre shops in the mostly pedestrianised shopping area. 15 min walk from Canterbury West Station.
