Amazing location.
Walking distance from Stepping Stones, Thorpe Cloud, and Ilam village.
Check-in was straightforward, with no issues.
Room, although dated in decor, was comfortable. We had a king size room with view of Thorpe cloud.

We will start with the room, we booked the honeymoon suite.
Pro’s - spacious, comfortable super king bed.
Con’s - 2 of the windows don’t have blinds/curtains letting in too much light with the bright early mornings.
Dining.
Pro’s - dining area is beautiful with amazing views.
Con’s - there were several ants crawling around our table, the menu was not the same as the menu on their website which cost us over DOUBLE the amount that is advertised and the menu is still live on the website now. https://www.whistonhallhotel.com/_files/ugd/3aa566_10fe882917ea469990e82bed03ca3e81.pdf we would have spent £36 on 2 sides and 2 mains, instead our bill came to £82!
If the bill had an “optional service charge” I was not made aware and given the fact that food service took far too long as they appeared to be understaffed as they were hosting a 30th party upstairs I would not have paid a service charge as we were eating amongst ANTS!
no reduction in the bill, just waived it off as “yeah we had ants and got rid of them but they’re back”
Breakfast was no different, machine coffee is terrible, cold toast served with breakfast, no butter on offer or provided we had to request butter for the toast.
There are several other nuisances but at the risk of going too over the top with critiques I’ll stop, you might even argue the butter for the toast is too far but when your heightened to an overall poor experience with unexpected food bills everything starts to bother you.
For these reasons I can’t recommend this place and won’t return.

The apartment was warm and cosy, bed comfy, hot water hot and plentiful, and in excellent decorative order. It would be even better if some information were provided about appliances. For example, I spent ages in the morning trying to figure out how to use the ceramic job to cook my porridge! Host very accommodating and gave clear information about access. If a tea towel had been provided, I would gave dried my breakfast things and put them away too. Fresh milk in the fridge overnight was frozen in the morning (easily fixed using the microwave, but if I’d had other things in the fridge they would have been spoilt. Easy fix but does need sorting.

Our two night stay at the Wildhive was the perfect short break. The staff could not have been more attentive, the dinner was excellent, and Callow Hall is the definition of a perfect UK hotel.
The property is built and decorated beautifully, and the land it sits of is perfect for spending a day cycling and exploring the local town or lounging around the gardens.
The staff made our stay particularly special as they were happy to help with any requests and did so in the most friendly manor.

Margaret was lovely, made things as easy as possible for a last minute booking as I had to stay overnight for work. I will say I did think the bed was quite uncomfortable

Amazing breakfast, location fantastic and staff were so friendly and helpful.
DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!
Absolutely disgusted with this property. On arrival this property was closed: after driving 4 hours had to find a last minute hotel. Now out of pocket as cannot get hold of anyone for a refund. Contact number does not work. Property still available to book on booking.com.
DO NOT BOOK HERE IT IS SHUT!!!
