Small boutique hotel and personnel are very professional. Breakfast caters for variety of preferences and very well presented. The hotel allows pets but it never felt intrusive since there are appropriate processes in place.

Dirleton Castle is really beautiful, an extensive ruin, with turrets, cellars, and a prison cell to visit. It has very fine gardens laid out in the Arts and Crafts style. Oddly, it doesn't look much from the road, but it is actually a major attraction - we spent about two hours there.
We also used Dirleton to travel into Edinburgh, it takes over an hour on the bus, but the bus is approximately £7.50 return and it is very regular.
We ate at the Castle Inn, where we also stayed - it was great.
