Suruchi was very welcoming from the moment we met. The room was lovely with fresh flowers, and the bathroom was a good size. The property has a well appointed kitchen so we were able to make our own dinner. The breakfast included was lovely- fruit, cereal, toast and of course Suruchi’s famous masala omelette! She loves her home and her guests, and wouldn’t let us leave without showing us her garden which she is passionate about. Suruchi and her son were interested in our travels and offered good advice about things to do in this area.
A lovely little village with lots to offer . The Royal Hotel is a gorgeous, cozy pub with lovely bedrooms and tasty food . Pie of the day was delicious.A little gem . With easy access to lots of walks it is perfect Aira Force is a beautiful walk that can be accessed easily from Dockray as can Gowbarrow Fell . With magnificent views over Ullswater which are breathtaking .

The pub has a challenge to climb Gowbarrow Hill.
The pub has a challenge to climb Gowbarrow Hill. We did it before breakfast and there were beautiful views from the top. There are walks from the village but a car is needed if you are going further afield in the Lake District.

Local hotel in Dockray good value, excellent food. Nearby pub in Troutbeck even better. Walking superb, trips up Great Dodd Fell and the smaller hills around Matterdale. Keswick good for a rainy day.

Lovely location for climbing the hills to see over Ullswater and climbing down length of Aira Force waterfalls.
Good position to explore the area; only 20 mins by car from Keswick and easy access to and from the South via the Kirkstone Pass
Hotel itself provides good menu choice and the food is well cooked and worth the price.

I liked the Hotel and the area where it was. It was only a few minutes drive to Ullswater but the savings compared to hotels by the lake was a bonus. It was very comfortable and the staff were lovely. Best thing it was super dog friendly!

There was a very good open area outside, with small and large tables and chairs. Here one could order a hot meal from the bar indoors, which would be delivered to us when ready. there was also space for a giant chess set on the marked grass.
Possibly the only problem, though we had told them that we would have to leave early the last morning, we found that none of the outer doors had been unlocked by 8.00a.m.

The hotel is in a quiet, idyllic village and is steeped in history. Our room was large, beautifully decorated and extremely clean. The bathroom was modern and the room had all the facilities you needed. We ate in the restaurant and the food was fabulous as good as you would expect in an al a carte restaurant. Breakfast was excellent with a good range of choice and locally sourced produce. The price was very reasonable compared to other hotels we had booked for our road trip around the lakes and Scottish highlands and was the best!
What a beautiful hotel. Staff were all amazing! Nothing was a problem. We left early this morning to get to work. Because we were missing breakfast this morning, we were given a packed lunch for today. I can not fault our stay. We will most certainly be returning to the Royal Hotel. Breakfast was beautiful. Very relaxing break.
What a gorgeous property! The photographs certainly don’t do it justice. It was the little touches that made it- the underfloor heating on, orange juice and Prosecco left in an ice bucket! Felt like we’d walked into a boutique hotel- slippers, bath robes. Cannot recommend this little gem enough.
