With its building over 200 years old, The Tontine Hotel is 5-minute walk to Greenock city center and to the Esplanade and has a bar and a restaurant.

Nice hotel, good central location. Staff very pleasant. Room was fairly basic although nice modern shower/toilet. Full scottish breakfast was nice touch. No issues experienced.

Although Gourock is quite small it is not lacking in amenities. Great parking 2 hrs free on the road, £2 full day in large carpark. There are some extremely individual quirky shops if you like something just that little bit different. The florist is not your ordinary florist as everything is of a high creative standard. Cafes, takeaways and restaurants all offering quality food. The Continental Cafe/Wine Bar has a real buzz to it, great food and fabulous views overlooking the Clyde. A unique outdoor swimming pool open spring through to Autumn. Gourock’s is central for ferries and Railway Station to Glasgow. A short way up the coast from Gourock along the Clyde is Inverclyde Marina, Weymss Bay and Largs. Largs has lots to see with a plethora of shops and cafes and ice cream parlours. There is a ferry terminal for various Isands also a paddle steamer during the summer months. Going north from Gourock is Greenock with shops, cafes and museum. Greenock welcomes the large cruise ships at its new ferry terminal. Going further north towards Glasgow is Braehaed Centre for fabulous shops and entertainment facilities. Gourock is a great place to stay with stunning views across the Clyde. There are a variety of excellent holiday accommodation.

Peter's flat is just as described and I'm pleased we were able to book it. The views of the Firth of Clyde from our flat were beautiful and the family enjoyed a long morning walk along the promenade.

Gourock is a great wee town with a cute little high street, with a nice selection of small boutique type shops and amazing views of the mountains. I have many happy memories too from visiting as a child. Shame about the small children's swimming pool looking like the high water tides have overtook it. But there is also an amazing Salt water swimming pool, namely Blur's latest album cover is of this pool. Have swam there a few times and it was bracingly cold and wonderful! Take your own towels etc and possibly some flip flops to navigate the concrete floor. In terms of restaurants, I went to The River for a soup, coffee & cake. I wasn't that impressed, my mum also said recently not great service at another time, so I was maybe trying to think on balance they were tired in between Xmas & NY. But I think they are under new ownership and trying to get a grip on the place - they possibly are trying to do too many things like offering cocktails which take a time to make. Ultimately their service was sloppy and the coffees were London prices so I was expecting a bit more, even their soup came with a tiny slither of sourdough and no butter and small things like then forgetting the knife to butter the bread, so I just used a small spoon in order to not create a fuss. They really need to up their game, possibly hire more staff and not just think their USP is great views. Cleats pub on the corner is great, just a good boozer and with great views, what is there not to like. Continental Cafe is nice with well priced food. The ferry service in Gourock is great, we took a ride over to Dunoon, and that in itself was an interesting place with beautiful beach views and great to visit for the afternoon.

Gourock is a beautiful little town centrally located in the Inverclyde area. It has beautiful views across the River Clyde and over the Argyle Hills. Trains, buses and Ferries are all convenient in town, to get to Dunoon, Glasgow, Largs and other small coastal towns. I recommend Gourock to anyone looking for a quiet holiday location in beautiful Scotland.

The main purpose of my visit to Gourock was to attend the Highland Games. I attended all 3 days however the first 2 days are mainly for competitions (dance, pipe bands etc). I used the 2nd day to explore Gourock which is a lovely location.
