Helmsley – 43 hotels and places to stay

The Feathers Hotel, Helmsley, North Yorkshire is in the centre of Helmsley in the North York Moors National Park. It has 3 bars, and en suite rooms, some of which have views of Helmsley’s Castle.

Great hotel, comfy room and great location. Parking situation isn’t ideal as you just have to find a space on a nearby road. Also, the room was too warm overnight which got uncomfortable. We asked staff if this temperature could be changed but were told it was automatic. But other than that it was a lovely stay!

Very attractive place to stay and an excellent base for exploring the glorious countryside of North Yorkshire. Great for walkers and would recommend the National Bird of Prey Sanctuary at Duncombe Park 2 miles away.

Helmsley is a pretty village/small town that controls the entry to the North Yorks Moors from the West. There is a lot of interesting small scale shopping, usual tourist clothing and arts and crafts shops. Plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants so easy to eat here. Staying through the day is fine but if you want to stay overnight here it gets a bit more difficult. N Yorks council is working hard to discourage travellers by making it almost impossible to park overnight in a place where onsite parking in hotels and guest houses is limited.

Nice historic town with a market square and good shops and cafes and pubs. The walled garden is beautiful with its nearby cafe, in the summer. Rievaulx Abbey, nearby has a great cafe and gift shop. Enjoyed coffee at Porters and meals at the Indian Restaurant and Black Swan. Browns shop is a must for clothes and shoes.

It is well located for visiting historic places nearby such as Whitby and Rievaulx Abbey, Scarborough is quite accessible and there is excellent hiking on the moors. Helmsley itself has a castle and listed church and an array of small shops to explore.

Nice breakfast cooked to order we had dinner for our three night stay and were very happy with the menu although a little expensive for a bottle of wine. The room was comfortable, clean and perfectly adequate for a short stay. We enjoyed our time in Helmsley . Nice hotel pleasant staff in a lovely village with plenty to see and do locally.
