Located in Alyth and within 27 km of Discovery Point, The Alyth Hotel features a bar, non-smoking rooms, and free WiFi throughout the property.

We received a warm welcome on arrival and enjoyed coffee and cake in the popular bar - a lovely touch alongside the usual drinks. The recently refurbished hotel has beautifully decorated rooms and our room featured a large, comfortable bed with quality cotton bedding; and modern amenities like a coffee machine and flat-screen TV, both easy to operate. The splendid bathroom had a fantastic power shower; and being in the centre of town we had a stunning view of the historic town square and river from our bedroom window. We stayed for two nights and slept well as our room was warm and peaceful. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast which included a fresh buffet as well as a variety of cooked options. On our first morning I had avocado and poached egg on toast and my husband enjoyed the full vegan breakfast which sustained us on our countryside walk around Alyth. We look forward to returning to The Alyth Hotel when we are next in Perthshire.

The Lands of Loyal stands proudly at the foot of Loyal Hill, overlooking the picturesque town of Alyth, 2 golf courses, and the rolling farmland of the Vale of Strathmore.

As you walk in the front door the whole place just has the WOW factor. From the sweeping staircase to the decor to the roaring log fire you just feel like you have stepped back in time. Friendly and attentive, its certainly the place to go if you want to really relax and unwind. My dog stopped eating while there due to being a bit nervous and the hotel happily cooked her a couple of sausages for her breakfast which she wolfed down:)

It was easy to get round Kirriemuir, It is Peter Pan's place. I was visiting family. It has 2 chemists if they are needed. A few good cafe's, a small supermarket, a small separate car park, 2 hotels and pubs. Forfar is only a few miles away.

For lovers of literature, Kirriemuir is idyllic.

For lovers of literature, Kirriemuir is idyllic. It's easy to see why JM Barrie and others have written of fantasy and imaginations in this town and the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, I came down with a virus so my exploring was somewhat limited, but I would highly recommend exploring on foot this delightful place. I intend to return and do more exploring myself. There's a great bakery with sweet and savory items, a wonderful butcher shop and several chemists that were quite helpful. The co-op grocers (there are 2 in town) had everything I needed and so I could just wonder at my leisure. There's a lovely little coffee shop (Bridges) with a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere to enjoy - they are closed on Thursday's and Sunday's so plan accordingly.

The weather wasn’t the greatest for early October yet there was enough to fill our time while staying in the area. Would definitely recommend Glamis and Stonehaven as optional excursions in addition to Kirriemuir.

    Only there for one day.

Only there for one day. Visited Barrie's grave and birth place. High street has lots of character, interesting shops e.g boutiques, craft shops etc. Didn't manage to see the Bon Scott statue but maybe next time!

The town is really nice but the centre looks like it has seen better days. There is a good ice cream shop/cafe and a great play park. The Camera Obscura is run by volunteers and wasn't open when we went. The police museum was though, and it is small but interesting. J. M. Barrie's birthplace seems quite expensive for a small museum but the garden is free and nice to see. I think there is only one bar that has a restaurant and the food wasn't particularly special. There are take-aways in the centre and there are other restaurants that you can drive to, but we couldn't get a reservation in any. On an evening there were a few drunk teenagers being quite loud and at times it sounded like someone was racing a car around the area. The area surrounding Kirriemuir seems really good for walks and scenery. We went for a walk along the river at Cortachy, and a swim at Gella Bridge.

Seemed like a nice wee town with a good selection of shops, places of interest and nice walks. We ate in our hotel, The Airlie as the food was great, although there appeared to be a reasonable selection of other places to eat. Will certainly be back.
