Lovely communication from the owners. It was spacious in a fabulous location. It was really clean and everything you needed was on hand. Easy car parking too.
On the scenic Queens Promenade, The Rutland Hotel is an elegant building on the Isle of Man.

I'd booked a standard room but was upgraded to an executive room with an amazing sea view! The bed was extremely comfortable, breakfast was perfect with a great selection of food and the staff were very friendly and attentive with nothing being too much trouble 😊 would happily stay here again.

For context Ive stayed in dozens of Douglas bandb and small hotels the last ten years. Ive rated this against the others on the Island not against elsewhere.
This is the first one ive stayed in one that didnt still have 50's / 60's furniture and strange coloured bathroom suites etc. Decoratively it is the best i've stayed in though the public area walls still quite marked.
My huge double room ( for a single price) was pretty much faultless. Location on the prom far end (fairly quiet) is ideal. Usual kettle and bits.
Contienental breakfast only was included and that was perfect for me and at the price I paid I was happy to even get that. The tea was nice.
Why is it not a strong 9 ? , because I give an honest review and in my particular room (4) each night there was a very obvious sound like a washing machine spinning each night until at least 1a.m. This required me wearing earplugs to get sleep. I can't rate this hotel higher because this clearly is not right BUT this hotel will now definitely be my stay of choice on future occasions if the price is similar.
Its great value im just pointing out one obvious issue which in 'at least' that room is unacceptable.

Great location with easy links to explore the whole island from a quiet base. Loads of walking trails and history on your doorstep. Easy bus and MER links. About 4 miles from Snaefell. Friendly and helpful locals willing to help if they can. Must see the Great Laxey Wheel. We thought it was fantastic. Stayed on the IOM for 4 days and used the clean, frequent and punctual buses to get around.

During our stay we visited all areas of the island, only spending an afternoon in Laxey itself. The wheel was worth visiting, particularly since English National Trust members get free entry. Some parts of Laxey looked a bit run-down, with properties boarded up, and others requiring significant maintenance. We bought a Go Explore ticket for the day, giving us access to all public transport (electric trams including the Snaefell railway, buses, steam trains and even the horse drawn tram in Douglas). This is well worth buying for a car-free day.
We walked up Snaefell, and were lucky to have a clear day to see the "seven kingdoms".

Great little town with a lovely rocky beach with two great choices for ice cream, sandwiches, coffee, etc. It was the perfect location from which to base ourselves so that we could visit many other villages on the island. Douglas, Port St.Mary, Port Erin and Peel all had their charm, incredible history, ancient castles plus great hiking trails up hills and along coastal paths. Plus, we took all three of the trains, the Snaefell Mountain train, the Isle of Man Steam railway from Port Erin to Douglas, and the Manx Electric train from Laxey to Douglas and back. We’ll visit again…one day.

Laxey a small village but peaceful with beach and the wheel however the wheel is undergoing some restoration work at present. Laxey has a few hills which may prove difficult for people with mobility problems but a nice little harbour area and a nice Italian restaurant and take away restaurant too.
