Good value for money but it was basic. Don’t go in looking at details! Bathroom seal was a mess. We did a long walk on the South Downs way and checked in and washed. We ate out and just slept there.

We arrived from Australia a few days before booking into The Plough. The Plough overlooks a very old church which is surrounded by tall trees and much birdlife. Our room overlooked the Church and when we opened our bedroom windows, the birdsong was delightful.
We had a really nice meal accompanied by a beer.
The room was very clean and the bed (which included feather pillows) was also very comfortable.
The bathroom was exceptionally clean with plenty of hot water in the shower and nice fluffy towels.
Breakfast was included in the price and we had cereal, a cooked breakfast, and finished with a hot chocolate. The staff could not do enough for you and nothing seemed too much trouble. Our family are due over very soon and will def be booking in here. We also will be returning. Such a lovely quiet and relaxed place with plenty of character that shone through. There is such a lot to see at Winchester and to have a place such as this to return to each night is a bonus.

We visited New Alresford as we were going on the Watercress Line for the Christmas Illuminations experience. The town itself is small but beautiful and we enjoyed a little stroll around despite the fact that Covid restrictions are in place.

New Alresford is a small town with walks to the river and a traditional steam railway. So near to winchester with a good bus service. Relaxing, individual shops and a great place to relax. There is a good choice of restaurants and pubs. I would consider staying in New Alresford again and using public transport to get to winchester.
