Orford – 24 hotels and places to stay

Situated within just a short walk away Orford Castle, in the heart of tranquil village of Orford, the Crown and Castle offers highly rated restaurant with 21 en-suite bedrooms. In 2018.

Spent a luxurious weekend at Easter in the Crown & Castle in Orford. Perfectly located near the Quay and pubs and bakery. Room was lovely, bed huge and firm. Breakfast was excellent and dinner even better. Staff could not have been nicer and met any request with 'of course you can'. Absolutely lovely. Expensive for sure but you get what you pay for. Recommend highly.

5 Coastguard Cottages, a property with a garden, is located in Aldeburgh, less than 1 km from Sudbourne Beach, 24 km from Framlingham Castle, as well as 32 km from Saint Botolph's Burgh.

Location as described just a short step from the sea. House was fairly basic - could do with some redecoration. Soft furnishings, cushions etc were a big grubby and the taps had to be really tight not to drip, then spurted the water out. It was fine for a few days but I wouldn’t rush back.

Orford is quiet, very clean, and quite picturesque.

Orford is quiet, very clean, and quite picturesque. It has a Castle within which is a small museum, maintained by English Heritage. There is an area of outstanding natural beauty a short boat trip from the quay and the sunsets can be lovely. Their is a small chocolate shop as well as a bakery / tea rooms if you get peckish during the day. A stately church (St. Bartholomew's) sits centrally in the town. The best part is that its all within about 10 minutes walk.

Two nights by the quay is perfect for a brisk walk.

Two nights by the quay is perfect for a brisk walk. Both north and south offer an extensive circular walk. If you stay in the Jolly Sailor you can get a voucher to avoid paying for parking. Everything in the village is in walking distance and you really should walk down every single back street as you will find bakers, butchers, Chocolate shop and both Pinney's shop and restaurant. Everything is dog friendly except the cafe on the sea front (not sure why) three groups were turned away, yet it was too cold to sit outside, so that was about 10 people who didn't buy a hot drink and snack. The castle is managed by English Heritage and is well worth a one hour trip. Check before you visit as October is a month where everything starts to close down, NT trip to the Nature reserve is only weekends.

Orford is a great base for walking or cycling.

Orford is a great base for walking or cycling. Four great eating locations: The Crown & Castle, The Jolly Sailor, The King's Head and Pinney's. Outstanding seafood at Pinneys and wonderful pub food at The Jolly Sailor. Didn't try the others on this stay. Orford quay the access point for Orford Ness from Easter and English Heritage have done a fantastic job on the restoration of the castle. Local shop and the Pump Street bakery/cafe delightful additions, plus the Meat Shed outstanding. Get your newspaper for the Town Hall 'Honesty' shed and treat yourself to Pump Street Chocolate shop.

    The accommodation was great.

The accommodation was great. Really comfortable and we really appreciated the room upgrade. Food was very good and just wish we could have stayed longer. Due to time of year (November) the nearby castle was closed but the weather was good and we got some great photos.

The property was furnished to a high standard with a well equipped kitchen. The beds really were comfortable. It has a private garden with two sitting areas both with views over fields and woods. The property is a short 10min walk to the centre of Orford. We enjoyed the walk on the raised dyke which runs along side the river Ore.

The centre of Orford is a "chocolate box" location and offers nice places to eat. It is definitely on my list for a return visit soon. In fact I may make it an annual stay. Margo's cottage is ideally situated close to the centre and the excellent fish restaurant.
