Excellent breakfast which was beautifully presented.
A friendly market town. A gem of a local museum, some fine architecture, and a ruined castle to explore. A bustling indoor and outdoor market. A lively racecourse with some great views. Some decent places to eat and drink.

The hotel is not in Pontefract, which is a town nearby and has a castle.
The Wentbridge House Hotel is in Wentbridge, a lovely, historic and peaceful village. It also has a very nice pub restaurant where we had an afternoon aperitif, after a lovely walk around the village.

Pontefract, a market town which l thought had a surprising amount of supermarkets or food stores. There was also an indoor and outdoor market. The town has a distinct working class vibe to it and the museum gives some key information about its industrial past. The local people l found were very helpful and friendly. lf you're interested in history, the ruined castle has some fascinating facts about medieval and seventeenth century events that helped to shape English history. l had a good chat with a volunteer on entering the grounds who looks after a herb garden. Some of the architecture, an austere characteristic which gives the town a unique appeal.

We stayed near Pontefract specifically to visit Wentworth Woodhouse and Brodsworth Hall. We found we were near to Nostell Priory which is actually a stately home so went there as well. These are all interesting places to visit, and the grounds are great for nature walks, also have children's play areas. All serve refreshments, and Wentworth also has an International Tea Room and pre-booked Afternoon Teas. We ate our breakfast and evening meals in the Jacobean Bar at Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel, and had some refreshments at the places we visited. We found them easy to drive to. We also enjoyed walking round the village of Badsworth and along footpaths to neighbouring villages. I would consider spending another weekend here and wouldn't avoid anything. Definitely recommend the venue.

They put us in room 8, this room didn’t have any windows, all it had was a sky light on the flat roof, they was no blind or window covering, we was woken by the daylight at 6.15am. Think this is the worst room I’ve ever stayed in. The chair in the room was only fit for the stip

We felt very much at home at Mel's . It was clean, comfortable and quiet. The garden was a real sun trap. Pontefract is a lovely town to explore and the castle is well worth a visit. The Carleton pub is a 5 min walk up the road and serves some great food and has plenty of things going on. The AV charger was a great addition for us and a rare find!
For a night in pontefract, the hotel is in a good position and cheap. All I needed was a place to sleep a shower, toilet and a bed to sleep in as close to the centre as possible it had all those, and i slept well.
