Overall we very much enjoyed our stay. Stow on the Wold is a lovely town surrounded by beautiful countryside. We undertook a couple of lovely walks passing through the villages of Broadwell and Bourton-on-the-Water. Lovely town with masses of independent shops, cafes, resturants and pubs. Very pretty area, lots of beautiful Cotswold stone cottages and buildings. Had a lovely evening meal at the Porch House hotel where the resturant was very busy however, the staff directed us to the bar where we were able to choose from the same resturant menu and the ambiance was great. Would recomment a visit to "the Slaughter's" Upper and Lower villages nearby for a stroll by the little river and mill and take some refreshment at the local.Guest review bySue22fUnited Kingdom - Review score10.0
Beautiful little town in the heart of Cotswolds.
Beautiful little town in the heart of Cotswolds. we were based there, and visited around. Lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Nice atmosphere to walk around. Don't miss the St. Edward’s Church, the must seen in town. JRR Tolkien was a Professor of Old English at Merton College in Oxford and he was known to visit the Cotswolds and Stow in particular. Rumour has it that he was so taken with the door of the church that he used it in his book. Rumour or not, the door looks exactly the same used in the movie. Don't miss a meal in The Porch House. We love Stow and have stayed here for the past four years.
We love Stow and have stayed here for the past four years. Lovely old buildings and layout. Great cafes and small shops and several really good places to eat out. Stow on the Wold is a beautiful market town in The Cotswolds. Full of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Great location as it's in the centre of Stow on the Wold with lots of options for food and drinks on the doorstep. We ate at The Bell which was lovely, really great meal and lovely staff.
