This is NOT a 3 star hotel. We booked 2 rooms. The rooms were supposed to be ready for us at 14:00.
Btw fyi there is no elevator, just many many stairs.
We arrived at 14:45 to find both rooms in a disaster situation, trash everywhere, blankets off the beds.
The cleaner apologised, but it took one hour to fully clean them so we left and came back when they were supposedly ready. No toilet paper, no soap, beds are SO uncomfortable.
Terrible stay. If I was to stay there for more than one day I would book another hotel.

The hotel met our expectations: a new and comfortable mattress, snow-white bed linen. The room is replenished with a free 1.5 l bottle of water every day, including an iron available at the reception. The breakfast was very tasty, two types of salad, cheese, cottage cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, omelette, sausages. The dessert was pancakes with honey, jam. Excellent coffee! There is a terrace on the 3rd floor with a beautiful view of the city. A taxi to the airport (20km) cost 15 euros. It should be noted that the hotel is located near the center, but on a hill and you have to climb 170 steps. Thanks for all of the staff members!

It snowed while we were in Kutaisi. Apparently heaviest for over 35 years. It slowed us down getting around, but once it melted away, it was easy to get around.
The local buses are cheap, frequent, and clean.
The markets are good fun to poke around and search for a bargain.
The coffee is generally good.

In Georgia, many people speak English, which is very pleasing—something you won’t often find in Italy, France, or Spain.
Here are a few interesting observations about Georgia:
- Georgia has experienced many wars, which have shaped the character of its people. You can feel the strength, resilience, and masculinity in Georgian men
- There are many stray dogs, and unfortunately, no shelters for them.
- There are a lot of police cars on the streets for control and monitoring.
- The average salary in Georgia is about $200–$400 per month. When I asked, "Where do the funds for expensive cars come from?" the guides explained that the money comes from abroad. Many young people have moved to the U.S. or Europe to try their luck and send money back to their families.
- The food here is outrageously delicious. I think I’ve never eaten better, not even in my beloved Italy. But you can’t stay here for more than a week—otherwise, you’ll turn into a chubby khinkali yourself! 🐷
- Compared to Europe and the euro, Georgia is very affordable.
- The country boasts excellent sanatoriums, spas, and therapeutic treatments.
- “Yes” in Georgian is *"Ho,"* and “No” is *"Ara."*
- A cow once crashed into our car on the road and took off the bumper. You must be very careful when driving here! 🐄🐮
- Compared to the “monotonous” Europe, Georgia felt authentic and real to me. While it’s not a wealthy country, and it lacks the “glitz and glamour” of places like Dubai, the people are genuine, warm, and incredibly hospitable!
Georgia is my 29th country, and a delightful discovery! I highly recommend it for tourism ☀️. Living here? Probably not. But for delicious food and breathtaking natural beauty? Absolutely!

We dint explore much around Kutaisi and were only there for the Airport Transfer to and from Georgia . However I now realize that I missed some great attractions within Kutaisi which should have been explored. Stay in Kutaisi for a day and explore their gorgeous caves, visit Bakuriani and Batumi from here due to its proximity rather than Tbilisi or Gudauri.

Kutaisi itself doesn't have much to see but it makes a good base for visiting nearby attractions such as Prometheus Cave and Martvili Canyon, which are both well worth a visit. There are some good restaurants and cafes around town.

This hotel exceeded my expectations- very stylish with a lot of personality, vintage furniture, nice decor. Also an amazing garden with fruit trees and a swing. The bed in a double room is huge and super comfy. Toilet is very good, with a powerful shower. But the best part was breakfast- the most delicious home made crepes with home made strawberry jam, fluffy omelette and a REAL coffee (not an instant one like in other places). They also offered to print our tickets free of charge and arrange transfer to the airport for a good price.
Couldn’t imagine a better booking stay in Kutaisi! It was beyond our expectations - Nino and her family is extremely welcoming and makes you feel as at home. The view from the balcony is amazing and the property is so near the centre. We hadn’t have much time in Kutaisi, so it was incredibly convenient to get a shuttle from and to the airport, be offered delicious local snacks (and wine of course;) and a tour with a lot of stories about Kutaisi’s sightseeing. Definitely will come back!💙
I absolutely recommand Hotel Varla if you plan to visit Kutaisi and are looking for a both central and yet quiet and peacful place to stay.
This wonderful family run hotel is very clean and the rooms come with all facilities you need.
The owners are really kind and Giorgi took time to answer all questions about the hotel and the city to me.
He also helped, when I needed a taxi to drive to airport at late night.
Thanks alot!
A lovely Georgian breakfast each day, fresh and tasty.
We loved the close proximity to the Cathedral and city views. Fairly easy 10-15 minute walk to city.
Clean comfortable room. Family owned and built character hotel with history.
Good services for airport and train transfers provided by host at a fair charge.
