Especially after the crowds in the north of Corfu and the mega hotels around the beaches here, we really appreciated the quiet, pastoral setting of the Stars. Our room was modest and fairly small with a balcony, but we did a last minute booking & were pleased to get in. As Emily said, “you’ll sleep well here” & we did. The breakfast array is plentiful & good, especially the coffee & homemade items. But it’s the dinner meal you want to make sure you take here. Don’t request the stereotypical offerings that are available everywhere: The specials each night, and the Greek meals, are plate licking delicious. And Kosta can whip up some good cocktails and wine for you when you describe what you want. We enjoyed watching the pleasure the kids were having in the pool but usually had spent too much time at the beach to want to use the pool ourselves. Love the parking situation.
Facing the beachfront, Lido Corfu Sun Hotel 4 Stars All-inclusive offers 4-star accommodations in Benitses and features a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, fitness center and garden.

Very picturesque village with twisting little alleyways...
Very picturesque village with twisting little alleyways leading up and down the mountainside. A good choice of tavernas selling traditional Greek food, also bars with some selling locally made wine. Sunday was a very busy day, all the locals were out and enjoying a coffee and a chat. Greece at its best

AgiosMatthaios is very atmospheric and scruffy!
AgiosMatthaios is very atmospheric and scruffy! People were friendly and easy-going.
A walk through the top of the village gives great views over the mountains. Eating out could be better but every restaurant gives big platefuls of local corfiot food. Sitting outside the Cosmas cafe for a beer would tell you a lot about the villagers and their habits. We would definitely stay again purely for the Greek way of life.

Agios Matthaios is a pretty village, with very warm-hearted locals. It is however, only reasonable to stay there if you have a car if you want to reach any local facilities at all. That includes reaching public transport, since the buses to the village are infrequent, only go to Corfu town, do not run in the evenings nor on Bank holidays or weekends. There are pleasant, hilly walks from the village with beautiful wild flowers, olive groves and sea views. The local (rather scruffy) beach is about an hour's walk away. There is a taverna and a kebab cafe in the village, both reasonably priced and with a varied menu and two small, well'stocked supermarkets to help with self-catering. There is also a delightful olive oil farm just down the road, with an invitation for a free look around and tasting afterwards - and a few things to buy, if you wish of course!
