Busy town with plenty going on. Cruises and a little train doing local tours. Plenty of restaurants to choose from and plenty of authentic Greek food.
A few hills but nothing too energetic.
I did find that Greece is becoming a lot more expensive than it was some years ago.

Agios Nikolaos is a pretty town set in a great location.
Agios Nikolaos is a pretty town set in a great location. It is hilly to walk around in places though the hills can be avoided. The beaches in the town are small and we preferred the bigger beach at Almyros, golden sand , sunbeds at 10 E for two ,though only a small cafe so take own food, We walked there across the back of the town every day in about 30 minutes though hilly on way there and back , definitely worth the walk.
We caught the bus to Elounda for the trip to Spinalonga. Our boat gave us about an hour and a half there which was enough though on arrival on the island there is a big queue to pay the additional 8 E entrance fee. There are a lot of tours arriving constantly by boat but there was plenty of room to get away from other people amongst the ruins. The beach at Elounda is lovely , golden sand with lots of nice restaurants. It was pretty windy the whole time we were there.

Agios Nikolaos is a fairly small town that much of what it has to offer are beaches and nis restaurants. There are nice mountains and historical places to visit nearby. I think with 5 days, it is just right. We took the first 3 days completely to relax by the beach and swim. At night we went Agios Nikolaos downtown for dinners. The 4th and the 5th days were to make road trips to visit Olive Mountains and some monasteries.

Beautiful port town, full of charm and history. Lovely restaurants and bars around the lake and harbour. Views from the top of lake Voulismeni are breath taking. Some beautiful shops to browse or spend in. You can take a boat from the harbour to the historic island of Spinalanga.

I would not call it a beautiful city but it has its charms and particularly the view from Gioma Meze (one of the best restaurants in town) is breath taking. Vibrant and lots of small shops and charming restaurants. There is a small city beach but you can easily reach two beautiful beaches within 10min. My personal top-3 restaurants are Gioma Meze (amazing view over the lake, great for sunsets), Pelagos (charming Patio and great fish) and Piatos (modern Greek with a twist in a beautiful city garden).

Staying here felt like being welcomed into a home rather than just a place to stay. The host’s warmth and hospitality made my time in Crete unforgettable. Every detail—from the generous help I received to the lovingly prepared breakfast and sweet treats—carried a sense of care and kindness. The suggested visit to Spinalonga was a highlight, a place of haunting beauty and quiet charm. I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone seeking not just a stay, but a memory.
We loved this hotel!. So much effort, imagination and detail reflects the age of this beautiful building whilst still providing all personal and modern needs. From the grand entrance, to the room decor and lighting, plus the changing views from the balcony both day and night, this was our favourite hotel having travelled throughout fascinating Crete.
Can't say what it will be like in the summer season but was so quiet in the evening as we stayed in the beginning of May. Staff were very pleasant.
Didn't use any of the facilities as we used this as a base to explore the eastern side of crete. Food was very nice and varied to cater for all.
