If you are seeking a quieter holiday it is ideal, although I can only comment on our October holiday when it was not so busy. It is a lovely town with many small streets to explore and friendly people, with the superb castle as its focal point. Methoni is a nice town in the furthest Peloponnese.
Methoni is a nice town in the furthest Peloponnese. It has a real island vibe, more like Crete than the rest of the Peloponnese. Mass tourism has not yet really beaten it down. Pylos is more touristic, but Methoni is just a little further down the road.Guest review byJohnson - Review score10.0

The water and beach views were beautiful.
The water and beach views were beautiful. The walk through the castle was amazing! It would have been nice to have a map describing the structures within the castle. Methoni is absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed it.
Methoni is absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed it. The only thing I would say is that it is hard to get away to visit other places without a car. There are some buses, to Pylos, Finicounta and Kalamata, but it was impossible to get a timetable. We kind of got round it by getting a taxi to Pylos initially, and the nice man at the bus office wrote down the times of buses between Pylos and Methoni, but we didn't travel around as much as we might have because it was so hard to get the bus times. There are very good local taxi services, but they are a bit pricey to do more than a couple of excursions (for us anyway - no disrespect at all to local taxi driver who were wonderful when we used them). Other than this it is really beautiful and absolutely fantastic food. The beach is lovely and great for swimming and snorkelling. The castle is amazing. Getting a boat to nearby Sapientza is recommended too, as is an excursion to Ancient Messini. The museum at the castle in Pylos is great.Guest review byEmmaUnited Kingdom

Tranquil spot - you could spend hours sitting on the balcony looking at the view. Plenty of secure space for our dog to run around and explore and different seating areas in garden including hammocks and picnic tables to suit different moods. Excellent and helpful host.
