Great little hotel in the mountain of Zaros. Family that runs it is very friendly with suggestions on things to do and places to eat. There is a small pool on the roof which would be great in the summer but a little cold in October. Rooms are big with private balconies and very comfortable. Don’t miss Vegera for dinner, some of the best home cooking I had in Crete.

Very peaceful location. Authentic unspoilt village. It was like stepping back in time. No touristy stuff at all..not even a souvenir shop as far as I could see.Surroundings are incredible. I was a solo traveller and felt very much at home there.. It'd a big draw for walkers..I just wanted to chill and enjoy the views .

This came a bit randomly in our trip and we’re glad it did. We loved Zaros for both the warmth of its people and the beauty of its decor. Our hike in Rouvas was great and every encounter was like it was family members.
One of the highlights of our trip to Creta. If you like getting closer to people and their culture it’s a must on your list.
If you’re into more attractions or shopping this one is not for you.

A very nice area of olive groves and brush from 500 m up where you can go hiking right from the hotel (Agios Ethimnios, Rouvas Gorge) or from Lake Votomos. You can also visit monasteries (in particular Vrontisi monastery). Plenty of good and very affordable tavernas around.

Zaros is a very nice village with good food (I highly recommend Vegera tavern- I got a delicious fish with different salads, fries, pasta, bread, olives, wine and dessert for only 15 euro, everything was so delicious and the owner is so nice and kind, she gave me advice on what to see near Zaros etc.), well ecquiped shops, 2 gas stations, nice architecture, coffee shops, hotels (recommended espetially Keramos hotel! - the owners hosted me at their farm but I also saw the hotel and it is amazing!), sourranded by the mountains. Very calm place, where it is nice to walk (there is a famous lake near). There is also a beautiful monastery not far from the village. It is easy to reach the seashore (30 mins by car). I espetially recommend Komos and Agiofarago beaches.

Everything was lovely. A bright and spotless well appointed room, beautiful bathrroom. Balcony looking out onto a paradise garden . Surroundings are amazing, so beautiful. The whole hotel is very tastefully decorated. The peace and quiet is a big attraction.
Breakfast very good..apart from the orange juice which was orange squash I think, such a pity to cut corners like that. The variety of pastries , breads , cooked food was excellent.
The swimming pool is gorgeous set in beautiful gardens .
The apartment is located in Kato Zaros, which is a smaller part of the main village (Zaros) in the southwest of the area. Quiet location with great views towards the mountains in the west and north of the area. Very spacious with two bedrooms and a large kitchen/living area and a nice balcony facing west. Everything needed was present. Contact with the host was via messages only (key in a locker box), but Christos is very helpful and answers on requests quickly.
Warm welcome by the friendly owners with home made local delicacies and tour around the house. Very quite location, with a lovely view from the terras on the Zaros mountains. The house is spacious, clean and all equipment is available. Excellent place to feel the authenticity of this very charming village and good base to explore the environment.
Breakfast was good ,but must be made clear it is optional, as paid on booking .com and was not clear that breakfast was to be paid for at hotel as extra , felt very awkward at end of stay being asked to pay for breakfast before leaving , if known could have also enjoyed breakfast in fabulous village cafe ,
Dimitris is a very nice & supportive host and he always has a solution for your troubles and Zaros is a village lost in the middle of the mountains. If you want to taste the real Crete far from the sea and thousands of tourists - this is the place! Good spot for hiking in Psiloritis Mountains.
