As I travel mainly for history, culture, and language, preferably off the common tourist trails, I appreciated visiting this historic and interesting city (though this was not my first time there). It may not be for everyone, though I found the city to be safer than many people may think, given the unjustly exaggerated media coverage Honduras often gets. But I think that for more independent, curious travellers, especially those with an interest in Latin America, Tegucigalpa, along with mainland Honduras generally, can be a rewarding place to visit.

Tegucigalpa has excellent food and wonderful sweet people.
Tegucigalpa has excellent food and wonderful sweet people. Carnitas Kennedy, El Patio, and Cocobaleadas are excellent places to eat.
Getting around Tegucigalpa is hard. Very congested with traffic. Need to allow extra time for traffic
Juana Lainez park, and El Picacho are excellent escapes from the noise and bustle

I spent two nights with my spouse in the Capital.
I spent two nights with my spouse in the Capital. Interesting city with one of the worst traffic that I encountered. I've been warned at my hotel and by Uber drivers ( Uber is present in Honduras ) to be very careful because of crime. Everything went smoothly and I even wondered outside Tegu. We did drive to Santa Lucia. I am a white 56 yo male and I was driving into Tegu from Comayagua. Never had a problem but I kept my eyes open. The locals are awesome and willing to help. The pictures that you can take at night in Tegu are amazing.

I went for work so I don't know about tourist attractions, but the food was great and the people were very friendly. I rented a car and it was fine driving, as long as you are used to driving in cities in developing countries. Not as bad as many places. I would like to go explore outside the city next time.

an interesting city, especially in the oldest part of town.
an interesting city, especially in the oldest part of town. Great Spanish colonial architecture. Easy to walk around. Safe enough. Museums closed when I went, which was disappointing. It’s very hilly! Also, it’s 1000 m above sea level,so if you’re not used to altitude, as I’m not, take a day or more to acclimatise
