The stadf and location are nice. However, the airconditioning is very, very dirty and gave me a flu and difficulty breathing. This was dangerous and hazardous. Lastly, the breakfast was quite underwhelming

Travelled for work, have had many trips for 3-6 weeks in Malang this year. It is a lively city, very busy and densely packed. There are some good bars and restaurants for westerners to visit, it's worth asking around as places close and new ones open up so online guides aren't always accurate.
Climate is always warm, either warm and dry, or warm and rainy!
People are very friendly, and the cost of living is very cheap compared to western prices. Local food is good, can be quite spicy as they do like chillies.

Nice places to visit, but lack of infrastructure.
Nice places to visit, but lack of infrastructure.
Mount Bromo, one of the best attractions is only reached by Jeeps, in fact, very old cars, no seat belt, no comfort at all, if you are more than 1.8 m tall, as me, you will be no room for your legs, and have to stary more than 5 hours like a sardine in a can.
Too bad, the volcanos are wonderful and the beauty of the area breath taking.

Malang was the old Dutch colonial centre of East Java and where Dutch women and children were encamped by the Japanese. It has lovely, treed avenues and parks however it suffers from traffic congestion and poor air quality like the rest of Java.

First walking into Zzz I was welcomed by the staff Malika. She immediately was pleasant and gave me a handshake and a hug. Such a sweet person. The dorms are very clean and there are curtains on all the bunks along with power and a light for each bed. Lockers are available as well. The price for the dorm is also amazing and I extend my stay twice. I highly recommend because you won't find another place with this hospitality and price in Malang!
We stayed here only for a night. Arrived at Malang station at 11PM and needed to leave next morning at 6AM.
So it is just for shower and sleep.
Hotel is not very far from the station but not in walking distance (with a luggage especially). Staff are friendly and helpful and packed breakfast for us to eat in the car as we didn't have time for breakfast.
This hotel is a pleasant modern business hotel type but the restaurant and rooftop pool are amazing, with 360 deg views of the volcanic scenery around Malang. Swimming and dining are highlights of this hotel in a city surrounded by magnificent mountain landscapes. Breakfast is excellent
A wonderful hotel which felt like you would stay in a museum. So much to explore! Very friendly staff - felt very welcome. For sure the best hotel in Malang which is the ideal location for a tour to the fantastic Tumpak Sewu Waterfall or a tour to Mount Bromo.
This was a clean, well-run hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The security guard at the gate was a good bloke, and those at reception helped me figure out how to get a train to Yogyakarta.
