Seminyak just has a good selection of shops and restaurants/bars. Not overwhelming like Legian or kuta. Beach area is quieter and more relaxed. Nicely set up. There is no Bali without Seminyak, all the best restaurants, cafes, shopping avenues, beach clubs are located in here. The town is not so nice anymore. More loud music, also outside the mini markets, attracting a different crowd. Not a lot of Bali left. The beach is still nice, and now cleaned of rubbish. And old favourites like Kudeta still have the cool vibe that made Seminyak a favourite before.
