The rooms were clean and spacious. It makes you feel that you can understand what life was like for the people who lived there many many years ago. The swimming was wonderful. The food was very delicious and the staff made sure to understand how we like certain things. One of the highlights was the cooking demonstration of a Chettinad typical dish. The chef made an unbelievable delicious dish in a matter of less than 10 mins ( the vegetables were chopped already). She was very gracious and we sampled the dish. She thought we would eat it all, but we were too full from lunch. We requested that very dish for dinner, which was not on the menu for that evening, but they served it to us anyway, SPECTACULAR! When we asked about the spices they used, a different chef came to our table and explained the nuances of the spices used. He even email us instructions as how to make one of the spice mixtures. Another special activity was the morning bike ride. It is absolutely worthy!!!!
Everyone at Visalam was equally attentive and caring and made us feel so happy that we were there. At the end we felt sad to leave the people there.

This property is absolutely beautiful. All staff members are always ready to assist you with whatever you need. We asked them to schedule a tuk-tuk trip around the surrounding villages and they set us up with a local driver and it was a memorable journey. We took yoga lessons with Pradeep, who is a wonderful and knowledgeable instructor. We could acknowledge by name all of the staff members because all of them made us feel comfortable and welcomed. The owners of Saratha are very friendly and engaging. They make a point to interact with all the guests and share their experiences as to how they remodeled this beautiful mansion taking into account the local community and the local resources. The food is amazing and you feel relaxed and happy around beautiful objects, spaces and people. They also have a store with beautiful merchandise!

We stayed at Chettinadu Mansion, Kānādukāttān, in mid-March 2025. A beautiful place and an exceptional experience to be able to stay in this lovingly restored building seeped in history. The staff here were kind and helpful in many ways, such as helping us arrange our onward transport. Guests remove their shoes before entering the building.
We stayed in the Vandal Room, a Deluxe Heritage Twin Room. It was a large room with two single beds pushed together, bedside tables and lights, and a desk and chair. There was a large rack for opening up our two packs.
The bathroom was up a few stairs from the bedroom. Nice toiletries and a good shower. There was a door from the bathroom out to an area overlooking Kānādukāttān, with a very nice view of a few of the mansions.
Dinners were lovely: Place your order before 5pm, and have a very good South India dinner (and a cold beer) by candlelight in the courtyard, under the stars. The veg and the non-veg Thali were excellent; compliments to the chef.
From the gracious welcome drink to the warm farewell, we will always remember Chettinadu Mansion and its staff fondly.
Guests staying at this apartment have access to a terrace. The air-conditioned apartment is composed of 3 separate bedrooms, a living room, a fully equipped kitchen, and 3 bathrooms.
