Good : Great waterfront locations, lots of superb landscaped resorts with lots of birds and calm and quiet neighbourhood. Bad : Very few good restaurants in and around the area, and food served at most of the upscale star hotels and resorts is very poor in quality and expensive, especially the dinner. The backwaters of Kumarakom are exquisite, quiet, and peaceful. Lovely friendly people. It's a small place, so 2 or 3 days is more than enough. The evening shikara ride was great for our group and was at the right price point - 2000 rupees for 2 hours for 2 families. The bird sanctuary was a big disappointment as there is not much to see and the facilities are also very poor - of the two bird watching towers one is damaged and other does not have a great view.
