This hotel in Nainital was a major letdown. It's located high above the lake and Mall Road, with no regular transport access. Only trained mountain drivers go there, and they charge heavily. Otherwise, you’ll need to hike up a steep road or staircase, which is exhausting.
The surroundings are not scenic or clean, and there's nothing to do around the hotel. Going down to explore and returning is a hassle. The staff refused to help with luggage even for extra pay, and early check-in is also chargeable.
Rooms are extremely small, poorly maintained, with dirty bedsheets, unclean bathrooms, and water issues affecting the flush. There’s no air conditioning, no windows, and no ventilation, making the rooms stuffy and uncomfortable. Food is below average and overpriced. The staff is minimal and quite rude.
Overall, it was a very unpleasant stay. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone unless you're a trekker who doesn’t mind poor service and untidy conditions.

Throughly enjoyed our stay at the Cygnett resort. The staff and the amenities were excellent and will definitely return here to explore Nanital further. There was only one slight issue regarding the heating, which was resolved quickly. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

4 day trip and got to revisit a lot of places .. was a nostalgia trip. However, overall Ranikhet, Orakhan are nicer now. Nainital has amazing lakes and scenery but way too much traffic and religious sights now. The roads and altitude struggles to cope with overpopulation. Definitely still scenic but very noisy and cramped now compared to past years

A beautiful lake city with a great weather to cut out from humidity and heat of cities. Lots of activities including boating, paragliding, zipline, etc. in and near by. A night stroll on mall road everyday until we stayed became a ritual.

Nainital provides a welcome break from the heat of India.
Nainital provides a welcome break from the heat of India. Very pleasant climate (March) cool in the shade ,warm in the sun. It differs from the plains and cities with few cultural attractions but great views , nice walks, and some quirky local attractions. The air was fresh but it is India so a. Little frenetic in the busier streets. I would say it is not wheelchair friendly at all.Nearly all walks involve steep walks up and down but usually with well made ,cobbled paths. You can take a row boat or sail on the lake but usually have a captain to do the hard work
It has a different character with more colonial era, relics, many old bungalows and even a very anachronistic Sailing Club. You can pony trek, albeit with kid gloves. The botanic garden some way out of town was worth a look and the market street at the Mallital end of the lake was vibrant with Holi performances and paint throwing. The hotels right alongside the lake look like the most convenient places to stay. But up on the hillsides on the southside were some very nicely appointed bungalow hotels. Very curvy roads to reach there, self drive looked like more hassle than it's worth. Many taxis, guides and safaris can be booked on the street. If you want to to Jim Corbett sanctuary do your research well and make sure it's not booked solid at the gate you want months in advance. Loved it there, very nice people.
