I come because of the Ashram so it is a big deal for me and my mum.
It is a must see place.
So many Restaurants to choose from. Favourite Veggie Indian was Icon Pondy dil se. Really good. Escape Inn for variety and views.
Gelato on the promenade is a must.
Pondy is easy to get around by Rickshaw and reasonable.
There are also plenty of bars. Hook bar with sea views is brilliant. as are drinks and food.
Villa Krish is another with great views. Try Asian House also for food and nightlife. There really are a lot of places so do some research.
Go to Auroville. Another must if you are in Pondy. Just to see the Matrimandir.

Should visit for relaxing and experiencing the diversified culture because just before the start of the White Town border, it's a simple & normal any other city of Bharat but once you are inside the White Town it's a complete make over with people behavior, civic sense, clothing, food and House build.

Pondicherry is a nice size Indian City that you can stroll around safely at least during the day as we did. Good food, tuk-tuk transport was cheap. We found the locals friendly and help full. The road along the white town beach front is vehicle free a lot of the time.

Architecture, tree lined streets.
Architecture, tree lined streets. Disliked constant honking of hooters. Difficulty crossing the roads because of the mad scooter riders and walking on the uneven pavements, mainly have to walk along the edge of the road - particularly after dark, headlights in yr eyes. Overall memory of honking hooters.

Pondicherry is a fascinating place to stay and explore.
Pondicherry is a fascinating place to stay and explore. White Town, the French quarter, is unlike anywhere else we’ve visited in India. The only downside is a lack of swimming beaches - either swimming is banned as unsafe or tides, though there is Paradise beach which is accessed by ferry which is supposed to live up to its name. Food is excellent, streets in WT seem far cleaner than many areas. Fun Sunday market worth a visit on MG road.

I think I was expecting baguettes on every corner, but of course it was an Indian city. Many tree-lined streets near the ocean made for pleasant walking and there were some excellent vegetarian cafes. A visit to Auroville is a must; one of the most bizarre places I've ever been to! It's underpinning philosophy is brilliant, but the execution of those ideas is just weird. Their jewel is an enormous gold golf ball that you can only see from a distance, and so much concrete used - where are the low carbon solutions for the structures?

We had great days in Pondicherry and the hotel was excellent. The staff was amazing. My husband was congratulated on his birthday with both song and cake, and when he ended up in hospital at the end of our stay, they visited us and found solutions in terms of new accommodation. We are so grateful. Thank you Elby E.J, Jaison and all the other staff at Maison Perumal. Sofia o Göran
The reception guy was so rude, arrogant and toxicated with alcohol. One of the worst hotels I have ever seen, very bad facilities no parking was provided only street parking, the hotel demanded higher fee compared to what was shown in booking.com
Booking.com should consider removing this place from their list.
Nothing I've liked..the stuff is very bad and even they doesn't even know how to behave with guests. They called me and force me to cancel this booking. I would like to request you to booking.com please don't list this kind of hotel at your site. They are spoiling your service and bad your name.
I recently stayed with my family at La Tamara Luxury Hotel in Pondicherry, and it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring every need was met promptly. My room was spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully decorated.
Room and bathroom are new and spotless. The bed is very comfortable. Fan an AC are a must in the heat of Pondy. The location is very beautiful with a charming walk trough little old streets of Pondicherry to the near beach and coastline. The owner was very kind and helpful.
