Excellent place with lots of temples nearby for the religious minded. Too crowded and the food on sale is not upto the mark. You may not get hygienic food as hygiene and quality of food is at a premium. Congested city and outsiders are likely to be cheated by autowallahs. Better to hire a taxi (charges are far too steep) to go to the religious sites (Tulzhapur, Akkalkot and Pandharpur) and cover them all in 2 days with no stay at any of these places. But they will be crowded and food is worse at the religious sites compared to Solapur. Two three eateries near the hotel are good. Getting around = auto is the best bet

The city is good. Hotels are pathetic.
The city is good. Hotels are pathetic. Remember these things to book a hotel in Solapur.
1. They don't call you and confirm. You must call them. They might ask for advance even after online booking.
2. If you are opposite genders staying in a same room, you must have ID cards with same surname. (In short, they don't allow couples with different surnames or unmarried couples.) In that case, book separate rooms.
3. If you're travelling in a group, make sure you book rooms accordingly. Separate for men and women.
4. If you are travelling with family, no issues.
In short, the hotel owners will judge you according to your company.

It is a relatively quiet city, the infrastructure here is not very well developed. Prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. I did not really manage to see the sights (for example, their famous fort can only be visited by paying for a visit using a QR code, which is not always possible for foreigners). The cheating with hotels left a very negative impression: when trying to check in here, they can refuse under various far-fetched pretexts and try to check you into another, much more expensive hotel. Apparently, taxi drivers are in collusion with hotel owners.
The impressions were mixed to negative, but overall I can recommend visiting this city for a few days in transit.

I went to visit Tulja Bhavani Temple and Akkal koth, both of which are near to Solapur. Temple visits were good. There is nothing much to do in Solapur, except the Siddheshwar temple and the lake near it. The Solapur chadar - soft ones were good.

It is nice place to visit.
It is nice place to visit. Lot of scope for local government to improve roads, sanitation, easy flow of traffic etc. For tourist outside the country may face little problem in the absence english language used for road direction board etc. Very good handloom bedsheets and other cotten material superior quality available.

Nothing, if you're driving through then maint on bypass and skip the city. Unless you're planning a night stay here. Roads are congested and heavy traffic on ring road, but no jams just slow moving traffic.
