We visited the temple on Saturday morning.
We visited the temple on Saturday morning. It took 4 hours to complete the Darshanam. Prasadam is tasty. Also visited Skanda ashramam. Trekking route to ashram is very peaceful and scenic. From Skandashram to Virupakasha cave is just 200 meter away but it is too steep climb down. Saw a lot of foreigners doing meditation in both Skandashram and Virupaksha cave. I liked all the local temples, mountains around, Sri Ramana Ashram and Tiruvannamalai main temple. Local people are very helpful. But the main one which I don't like is the food options are minimal. And on festive days it is too crowded (which is expected as you see in media), and the temple management team / local council hasn't done much to support such volume of tourists / crowd to enable the best experience of worshipping Lord Shiva peacefully. Surely, this can be improved to enable the power of this nice town. So, you need to travel with less expectations (don't expect it to be as good as Tirupathi, Madurai Meenakshi temples) while visiting and the focus is mainly on the god. Also, please expect walking more. Good to carry cotton dresses with required footwear, water bottles etc. Otherwise, this place is a must visit in a lifetime to pray Lord Shiva.Guest review byJeevAustralia - Review score4.0

Temple is ill manged, no proper planning by temple authority,people wait in long queue for darshan of 5 second, Tamil nadu government considers this temple as a money minting machine only. Tiruvannamalai is a Mukthi sthal and most of the people visit the place to worship Annamalaiyaar, and visit Sri Ramana Asramam. Full moon days bring tens of thousands of people there, from around Tamil Nadu, who mainly come there to perform the Girivalam. If you are looking for a quite visit and dharshan then you would do good to avoid the Full moon days. The climate is very hot during the day ( 37 C) and nights are also warm. The best period to visit is between November and January, especially during the Karthigai deepam festival when the weather is comparatively pleasant. Travelling around the town is a bit of a problem if you haven't come on your own vehicle. There are no town buses that ply within the town, and tuk tuks are costly, especially if you are a solo traveller. Temple opens at 4 PM in the evening. Complete the darshan at the earliest. Come to Raja Gopuram and commence your Girivalam. Remember to look out for a large board that depicts all the shiva lingam temples enroute the girivalam. It will display where you are and the KMs you have covered out of 14 Kms that is the total route. The first spot is the Indira Lingam.Guest review byMIndia
