Svartaborg was absolutely fantastic! It was my and my 24yo nephew’s favorite place that we stayed in Iceland. It is also one of my top 5 favorite places that I’ve ever stayed in worldwide. It was so nice I plan to come back just to stay there longer. Everything was top notch, from the cool modern design to the hosts having thought of everything to include and laying out the space in the most functional way.
The main bedroom faced a waterfall which was beautiful to look at through the large picture window. Throughout the house, there were large windows to look out at the landscape from multiple directions, while at the same time the houses were spaced far enough from each other for privacy. There were also blackout curtains in the living room.
The hot tub/pot was very easy to use, had a great view of the landscape, was privately tucked into a berm, and had a clean path from the house to the tub, so no shoes were needed. There was even a door off the bathroom, so you could walk back in there and not drip water over the house.
The bed was super comfortable and very large for Iceland. My nephew slept on the couch and said it was also comfortable.
The towels and soap/bath products were 5 star hotel quality and were representative of this area of the world. The pottery and dishes throughout the house were stunning and authentic to the area as well.
The location was super quiet and I saw a lot of the night sky and even faint northern lights. It was conveniently located between Húsavík and Akureyri.
I am looking forward to returning!

The proprietor greeted us warmly at check in. He presented a very friendly first impression, and made dinner reservation for us. The room was very spacious, comfortable, clean, quiet (as we were in the country) and tastefully appointed. The bathroom was big and clean, and all the fixtures functioned perfectly. Breakfast was well presented and offered a good selection.

Almost everything, the room was clean and very comfortable, breakfast very good. The host was very helpful, they arranged diner when we arrived, gave us many pieces of advice about places to visit around. Definitely worth the stop in this beautiful area.

Ideal for visiting Mývatn area and without the bugs! Also close to Húsavík area. Including Dettifoss and Asbyrgi. Note that Google Maps is incorrect. (See Apple maps or something else). Google maps does not show all the roads (very strange but true). Also important. The road from Mývatn to Adaldalur are paved roads. No gravel. A lot of Information on the internet (even road.is) is outdated.
