Visiting Stresa and the Borromean Islands during mid October can be a bit tricky due to the rainy autumn weather. But if you are lucky enough to have a good weather, then it is the perfect time to visit the islands.
We had an over night stay at Hotel il Verbano and I must admit, this Hotel exceeded our expectations. Our room was on the first floor. It was spacious enough, clean and tidy and had a direct access to a large balcony which is shared by all rooms on the said floor. The view is stunning, Isola Madre is just infront of the balcony and on the right side is the majestic Isola Bella. Since it was low season, there were just a couple of guests, so we almost had the balcony exclusively for us. There were chairs/ garden sofas and sun beds enough to accomodate thier guests.
The Reception and the Staff are very friendly and professional.
We had a great breakfast. Although the choices were limited to several sorts of cheese, cold cuts, pastries, etc., it was the quality of the breakfast that counts. We enjoyed those crunchy freshly baked bread and pastries.
I can highly recommend Hotel il Verbano not just due to its location, service and friendly staff, but the unique experience and the tranquility that we had during our short stay on the Isola dei Pescatori.

Stresa is a very picturesque and charming town in the western coast of lake Maggiore. It was the ideal location for staying to drive around the area. We visited 4 lakes: Iseo, Orta, Lugano and of course Maggiore with the 3 Borromeo islands.
Food was excellent and fairly priced and one has a lot of options. There is also a variety of shops in the town, which is important for families with young children like us.
Parking was not a problem, and driving a rented car is probably the best option to see the area.
Overall, the place surpassed our expectations!

Stresa in January is a ghost town.
Stresa in January is a ghost town. I was there on business, so all I needed was a place to sleep and a restaurant for my meals (and luckily I found one that was open — Ristorante Centrale).
I much prefer Stresa in the Spring/Summer and I would pick accommodation with a lake view.

Stresa has earned a super reputation as a tourist destination and justifiably. Beautiful scenery in any weather, the Borromean islands are easily reached by the myriad shuttles which sail from several points on the mainland to each island. The islands are best experienced 'out of season' since they become very crowded during peak season. Stresa itself is a charming small town with very decent restaurants, bars and shops amongst the delightful mix of architectural styles reflecting its history. There's a huge choice of accommodation to suit all pockets and plenty of activities, tours and attractions to occupy every age group such as Park Pallavicino with its wonderful gardens and the lakeside promenades. Sadly, the cable car to Mottarone is no longer in operation.

One of the most beautiful lakes I have, ever seen with a lot of culture. The mountains and islands have beautiful scenes and it feels so healthy to be surrounded by trees water and mountains. There is an amazing alpine coaster not too far a drive up a mountain near bye that boasts stunning views. Its priced very reasonably. The boat trips to the islands and palace are wonderful too.
You will not be disappointed but be Careful not to book a property that is situated beside the busy train line that operatws 20 hours a day. You can feed birds and ducks as they come very close and even stand on you if you if you feed them whilst holding the, food. About an hours drive from the, airport and plenty of shops and, restaurants. There is also a lovely animal park and gardens Fantastic.💞

The hotel, service, facilities, food and staff were all exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. Hotel La Palma is in a wonderful location right on the lake with stunning views from the rooftop lounge. We wish we'd had longer and will definitely be back.
Thank you to everyone for making it such a memorable 4 day break. We'll be back.
Very nice view of Lake Maggiore and the Borromean Islands, hotel located on the heights of Stresa, accessible by car or on foot for good walkers, very clean and comfortable, quiet, beautiful terrace and garden overlooking the lake, good sweet savory breakfast, welcoming and accommodating staff
What a wonderful stay we had at Hotel Milan Speranza. The staff were so lovely and friendly. The location was excellent right in the centre of beautiful Stresa. Would definitely recommend this hotel as I cannot wait to go back!
