Sapporo is a really good place for people who has experienced Tokyo or Osaka as it was less hectic compared to Tokyo and easier to navigate. Historically Sapporo is rich with its own, and very proud with its heritage. Being from Hawaii, I've never experienced snow before. Even in mid-March it was still snowing! Absolutely beautiful experience without the congestion of Tokyo. The regional food specialties were great! Be sure to try the hairy crab, Hokkaido potatoes, and Hokkaido ice cream (especially Cremia located in Tanukikoji!). We were in Sapporo during the winter. It was very snow, but we were prepared for that so we had the correct clothing and gear. It was sunny, so that was great. I went to Sapporo for a cross country ski marathon, excellent trails, beautiful xc skiing in forest. Also Sapporo was easy to get around, great public transport infrastructure.
