The hotel and the room are clean and quiet. The staff is friendly. The breakfast buffet is high quality with local cuisine; however, the options remains the same everyday and they aren't many. Overall, the staying in the hotel is excellent.

We stayed two nights here. We enjoyed our stay. We didn't get the breakfast so can't comment on that. The location is fine, very near the train station. I would stay here again if in Sendai.

I have to say the view nearby from Matsushima is simply amazing (~30 min by train from Sendai station)! I also very much enjoyed the walk through the mausoleum grounds, but the rest is very much "just a city", and I didn't find anything else that was particularly interesting for me. The local specialty of beef tongue is nice, but quite pricey for what it is (it should be noted I'm mainly vegetarian, so meat-lovers might feel differently!).

We enjoyed our stay in Sendai.
We enjoyed our stay in Sendai. Hotel Monterey was very close to the station. It has an old world Praque theme which is a little outdated but very comfortable. We booked a corner room which was large, had writing desk, coffee and tea facilities and a large bath. The single room for our son however was a little spartan. The hotel breakfast was great and kicked started our day of exploring. We really enjoyed the onsen spa every evening. The temple was a wonderful experience and we enjoyed the day we spent at Matsushima Bay. Local train journey was easy and cheap as was the boat trip around the bay for 800 yen for an hour cruise. Exploring the island close by was delightful. Overall a very good few days in this area of Japan.

It's a wonderful city to visit and I wish we had spent more than the three days to explore its many neighborhoods and shopping districts. It seems like there is a great deal going in Sendai, while remaining a clean and orderly metro area. You can't beat the food options or its proximity to one-in-a-lifetime views like Matsushima or Geibeiki Gorge.

I think Sendai has many interesting unique features but if you push a little further I personally prefer Sapporo. Sendai is bigger, more modern but also slightly slightly less accommodating in some ways. I ran into more language barriers in some parts of the city then anywhere else in my travels in Japan. But if you want a city not as large as Tokyo for excellent shopping and adventure Sendai is still near the top of the list.

Beautiful city, plenty of trees and shade and I loved the arcade shopping streets. There's lots of open spaces and places to grab a seat, and all of the food I had was excellent.
I visited Aoba Castle ruins and really enjoyed the walk, and there's excellent views of the city. I think Sendai is a great choice for a short break.

Great town.
Great town. Nice size - big but but very big, small but only incomprison to very big places - ie more laid back than Tokyo and Osaka etc but more going on than a (picturesque) paddy field. Try the Gyu-tongue set ( or go home really, it is the local thing. very nice)

Breakfast was a good spread of both Western and Japanese food. There were many shops and restaurants nearby. Its a bit of a walk from Sendai Station but still walkable. The bus to Yamagata was just diagonally across the street. The staff were helpful and friendly. Love that there was an onsen in the hotel and it was super nice to use it with the cold winter weather.
Excellent location. The Hotel is adjacent to the main Sendai train (Shinkansen, JR and metro) station and large mall. Very convenient for local trips, day trips outside Sendai, restaurants and shopping. The hotel offers relatively spacious rooms compared to other Japanese hotels. Rooms are clean and bright.
I like how clean it is and how professional all the staffs are. Dislike, maybe the fine dining restaruants are a little too expensive or just intimidating to even try.
P.s. i didnt take any photos of the hotel, but it energized me enough to visit aoba castle and sendai musuem so have that instead!
Hotel staff is helpful and location is a short distance away from Sendai station. There is also a 7-11 store below which is great! They also do provide drinks after 3 PM which is great
