The hotel is conveniently located just a 5-8 minute walk from the JR train station, bus center, and tourist center, making it very accessible.
The rooms are spacious, with two regular beds and two tatami floor beds, making it suitable for a family stay.
The onsen on the hotel's top floor is fantastic, allowing guests to enjoy the pleasure of soaking in the hot springs on a snowy night.
Although the hotel is quite large and accommodates many group guests, they are distributed across different restaurants, so breakfast is comfortable and not crowded. The Japanese-style breakfast is quite delicious.
All the staff members are very warm and friendly. I would like to extend special thanks for their help when I left a earphone in the room. The front desk staff actively assisted by arranging for it to be delivered to my next hotel(in another city), ensuring they arrived on time. Special thanks to Ms. Liang at the front desk for her exceptional service.

Takayama is a wonderful small city in the mountains in Japan. It has many historic sights to see, morning markets, museums and onsen. It is also a short bus ride away from the Gassho villages and Gero onsen.
It would be a great central location for a stay in Japan in the mountains.
It wasn't too busy early in the season, but I heard it gets rather busy with tourists during the season.

Should have also planned to stay at a nearby Onsen but the mountains were easily accessible for day trips on the Nohi Budses.

I had visited Takayama before and came back as it was my girlfriend's first time in Japan. Such a lovely city! The snow made it even more special! The food was also incredible, a highlight of the whole trip - Hida beef is underrated!

One of the best places we stayed in Japan.
One of the best places we stayed in Japan. The town is clean, walkable and the old district has the best Sake Breweries!
Our only issues was trying to eat at night. Everything shuts quite early so prepare your evening meal well in advance. If you are vegetarian... good luck, Hida Beef is definitely the areas specialty.

My husband and I spent 4 full days and 5 nights in Takayama and that was the perfect length for us. First day walked the old district, Second day went to Shirakawa-go, Suganuma and Ainokura village. Third day went to Sato Open Air Museum and the Hikaru Museum and last day walked the town some more. Great place to visit.

The Oyado Yamakyu ryokan can boast a whole range of very good points: friendly and helpful staff, wonderful premises, extremely well-located right next to the historical neighbourhood of Takayama... but what beats everything else is the quality of the meals there: I spent 5 weeks in Japans and ate a variety of delicious food that I'm going to miss without a doubt, but nothing ever came close to what I had at Oyado Yamakyu for dinner and breakfast. I would come back again for the sole sake of eating there - it was truly amazing!
Excellent location in Takayama just on the edge of the old town area and about 15 minutes walk from train station. Spacious rooms, with basic interiors. The beds are mattresses on a raised tatami floor which gives it a nice Japanese feel. The common lounge area near reception is great, with free drinks including beer, sake and a range of teas. Didn't try the onsen. A fairly simple hotel which is nicely designed to suit its surroundings, with a Japanese vibe and in a great location.
Loved the view from our room, and that the Ryokan was at the steps of Takayama’s key attractions, including the Old Town and the morning market. The hotel breakfast was also so lovely. We felt it was a great way to enjoy some Japanese traditions. The staff were so attentive, friendly and helpful.
The Women’s Onsen that was located in the next building was absolutely fabulous- so well equipped that it made you feel like you were at the spa.
We loved everything! I was at this hotel 5 years ago and when we've planned this trip to Japan Takayama was on our Must Do list. Immediately decided to search for Ichinomatsu and book it. Onsen is still amazing (even got a lot of snow), breakfast is probably one of the best in our Japan trip and the staff is very kind and helpful. Thank you again for a wonderful stay. We will be back!
When we arrived we got a warm welcome. Really nice experience to step into an old ryokan. Unfortunately this was only the entrance, the rest of the building is a big themed hotel block. The breakfast was special and lovely. We stayed to night's and we chose to get both nights a Japanese breakfast (both were different). The onsen is small but nice after a day walking.
