Gorgeous location. We loved the outdoor onsen with amazing views! Everything was extremely clean. The buffet was plentiful and all the staff were very friendly. The nearby Guernsey Farm is a must see for delicious milk and the coffee in Chie’s cafe was incredible. The staff at Chie’s were SO friendly.

My stay at Lodge Kiyokawa in Kyushu was like stepping into a hidden slice of paradise; the treehouses felt like cozy nests high among the trees, with the river's gentle murmur as my lullaby. Alex and Masato, made sure every meal was a delight, and their suggestions for hiking and biking turned my trip into an unforgettable blend of relaxation and adventure.

Owner speaks really good English. Room does not have AC but there is a heater, which I like more due to the ambiance it creates. Location is a bit far from center, but owner will drive you there if you ask.

We used Taketa as a base for day hikes so didn’t explore the town much. The main town is compact and quaint with narrow little streets and a bit of a sleepy feel. To be fair, this was a Monday evening and not much was happening.
Had one of the best meals in Japan there at a little French fusion restaurant called Champi (a break from Japanese). Amazing food (5-6 little courses), lovely owner/chef and very reasonable cost. Also plenty of wine options.
Also used the public onsen - well maintained and old-school. I recommend it.
