Great location next to train station, includes a ticket to the local onsen! Owner was so sweet, she let me keep my bags while I went to check out the monkeys. And she's an amazing chef!

Located in Yamanouchi, 2.9 miles from Jigokudani Monkey Park, Hotel&Resort Yamanouchi Hills has accommodations with a garden, free private parking and a shared lounge.

The room my friend and I shared was very traditional, spacious, and had a great view of the neighborhood. They had an Onsen for all to use and had free accommodations. What I love about the area is it's not very touristy at all. A very quiet small town with great food. Feels very nice and calming compared to major cities in Japan. I would love to come back to this beautiful Town again :)

Featuring 3-star accommodations, Maruike Hotel is located in Shiga Kogen, 8.1 miles from Jigokudani Monkey Park and 14 miles from Ryuoo Ski Park.

Great location when it comes to ski. A not too used lift is just at the exit of the restaurant of the hotel. It's on the mountain so at night it keep this vibe. The village with food truck is 10 min walk and the main visitor center from this resort "Maruike Area" is also 12 min walk. Onsen in the hotel to relax 24/7 open. It has this vintage 90's vibe typical of the Japanese resorts. Also the game room is complete with a warm atmosphere and many boards games, billards, darts, sound system and a bar.

I think I would have stayed a little longer (than 3 nights)...

I think I would have stayed a little longer (than 3 nights) to take advantage of the skiing and the onsen's (alternate between the two!), to relax for longer in the Japanese countryside. (I did not come to Japan to just check off the tourist sites...) The town has narrow streets to walk on, even without gps you cannot get lost as it is more or less parallel to the river, especially the more tourist section with all the onsens.
