Beautiful hotel and I think the nicest is Lamu town. Beautiful pool in a central courtyard. Restaurant was relaxed and plentiful servings with included breakfast. Staff very friendly and I appreciated the glass water bottles, and sustainable use of reusable shampoos in glass bottles.

The host(s) went out of their way to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. From arranging a pick-up at the airport to even organizing sunset cruises with trustworthy local captains, and always being available by phone for queries, I really enjoyed staying here. The apartment itself, though functional and basic, is very well-located. Best part: the rooftop with it's stellar view of Lamu's waterfront and clear skies.
Martin and Emanuel, I wish you both all the very best!

The location is fantastic—just a short walk from great restaurants and charming coffee shops. Getting into Lamu town was also hassle-free.
The accommodation itself is immaculate—spotlessly clean and well-maintained, with breathtaking views. The terrace with Swahili-style couches was a perfect spot to unwind, soak in the scenery, and enjoy the sea breeze. We also felt safe and at ease throughout our stay.
Breakfast was delicious with fresh juices and fruits that added a refreshing touch to our mornings.
Abdalla, the owner, was quite helpful and communicative. He provided us with useful recommendations, arranged our boat transfers to and from Manda Airport, and even booked a stunning sunset dhow cruise.
Emmanuel, who manages the place, was always ready to assist whenever needed, ensuring our stay was smooth and comfortable.

I liked that Lamu is a small town, easy to walk about and no pollution say for donkey dung.
There are many eateries with all kinds of meals, loved the seafood restaurants near the jetty.
Lamu is safe for travellers and the community is very welcoming.
Easy to get around either by speed boat, dhow or slow engine boats if not in a rush.
The weather is warm and windy especially in the evening. People prefer to walk about and sit around the seafront at night where there is good ocean breeze before retiring for bed.
Fishing is a great recreation activity which we all enjoyed while in Lamu.

Lamu is a small conservative town rich in culture with very friendly people. I like that most restaurants are at the beachfront and I can recommend a few with what they offer:
1. Forodhani Lamu- for local cuisine like pilau, biriyani etc. It was the most affordable.
2. Sailors Joint- for shawarma, pizza and sea food. I went here almost everyday for their shawarma, so so flavorful.
3. Bush Gardens Sea food restaurant- for seafood especially. Had the best fresh mango juice.
4. Rangarelli Cafe- in Shela has the best local food there
5. Gelamu- for gelato ice-cream, this is in Shela.

We were looking for privacy and relaxation as well as some outings to get to know Lamu better so our location on Manda island with private boat service to anywhere was ideal
Some recommendable eating places included peponi and kijani hotels in Shela, garden restaurant on Lamu sea front
We also enjoyed Lamu museum and the Flip-floppy enterprise for recycling all kinds of waste plastics

Lamu is a mesmerizing town with a beautiful history.
Lamu is a mesmerizing town with a beautiful history. The people are very friendly and welcoming. For instance - the town can be like a labyrinth, which makes it a bit challenging sometimes to find spots - even with Google Maps. Either people ask you if you need help or you can ask them and they show you the way - many of them even walked us to the location. This experience was so wonderful - I would definitely come back again.

Great, quaint town.
Great, quaint town. The scent of the donkey excrement is off-putting but seeing them is sublime. Being a coastal town, there are many ‘captains’. I had my transport pre-organized with my accommodation so be weary of that and potential scams, as well as the impromptu tour guides. Touch water, take a sunset sail boat ride, and visit the beach, maybe even Shela. Locals were very nice and friendly, warm welcomes. Affordable restaurants as well, Sailor’s Joint for example. I stayed at Subira House.

We had a very nice stay at the Banana House. First of all, it’s an absolutely beautiful place with all its details. The location is perfect to explore Shela and also the staff is really kind and helpful. Perfect basecamp to explore the beautiful island of Lamu. Jamil, owner who was born in the Banana House, took us on a beautiful tour to the dunes to overlook the island. We thank you for your hospitality. When in Lamu definitely stay at Banana House!
What I loved most about JamboHouse was its relaxing terrace, the excellent & nutritious breakfast, as well as the owner. Arnold: Not only did he provide me with a series of recommendations of what to do in the island, but he also arranged a couple of tours for me (including a comprehensive tour of Lamu town itself, as well as a visit to Takwa Ruins of Manda island)
Jua House is beautifully furnished and was a perfect place to stay for the Lamu Yoga festival. The staff were very friendly and always helpful. Breakfast was amazing and to top it all the evening tea treats were delicious. Beautiful view of Shela from the roof top.
Location was conveniently central for exploration of the town, shops and a walk to Shela. The house was interestingly quiet and peaceful despite being in the middle of town.
